If you're a Star Trek Voyager fan like me, this game is a must-own.. but the aging graphics can look pretty sad on today's systems. Here are some config tips to squeeze the most juice out of it. Please, however, note that when I updated my wide resolution, the opening FMV cutscene when you start in the game won't play, but will just show a white screen with music (mouse click to skip). However, the in game cutscenes played fine. Mouse click to skip them. Also note that these settings are the same you could set in Quake III, the engine the game is based on. I got much of this info from browsing the bountiful info about Quack III on the web.

For one, the textures are pretty sharp at "very high," but look quite compressed at any other setting. Unfortunately, for me, whenever I update the texture detail, the game is unable to save the config settings after the game is closed. However, upon manually editing the config file, it sticks.

Find your config file. It should be under: [Game Folder]\BaseEF\econfig.cfg (and) hmconfig.cfg

> Edit Your Config Settings <

seta r_picmip "0" (0: Textures: Very High; 1-3 Lower Respectively)

seta r_mode "-1" (Custom)

seta r_customwidth "xxxx" (Custom Width; Ex: 1920)

seta r_customheight "xxx" (Custom Height; Ex: 1200)

seta cg_fov "90" (90: 16:9, 80: 4:3)

I am starting to collect stacks of games on my profile. A appreciate collecting and sharing information about my favorite titles in or outside my owned collection.

However, one of the issues I have faced in this is many of the classic games I stack (such as for the NES) have no screenshots or only screenshots from barely relevant newer games. Is there a way users can submit screenshots to balance this ? Does your account need to be a certain rank to do it ? And can you flag inappropriate images ?

Note: I tried adding an image to my profile and writing the game's name as the tag. However, in the game's profile, my image didn't show up. Is that the correct way? Is there a time limit before they will be visible ?

One of my favorite uses of Game Spot is tracking classic game information. Box Scans, Demos & Patches, Reviews, Screenshots, Videos, and Forums of my favorite classics from the Sega Genesis to the PS2 really bring back memories and help me when I pick up some of these to play. I also check reviews and information for new games. One of the most frustrating things I no longer see on the site is the "info" feature containing a list of links of games in the series (example: resident evil or final fantasy and all games in the franchise). This was very helpful for information and also finding other games in a favorite series. Also, it seems I cannot access high-resolution Box Scans, Demos, and Patches now. I understand you never had ALL the scans before, but you had enough for printing missing box art and also providing important box information such as 2-player, supports multi-tap 4 player, supports camera, supports online. As for the demos and patches, it is a very sad thing if you no longer provide these because this was a very main feature for trying out and improving gaming. Also, concerning videos of reviews and game play, I am glad you have kept these up, but I have always had trouble playing the older videos on your site with my modern Firefox. I used to download those videos to help the situation. Please see if you can get them working or allow downloads again, but don't remove them. Thank you, much, for supporting game collectors by retaining information on these classics. Please do your best to hold on to the helpful information you have.

I have tried adding games to the default stacks such as games I am playing, but when I click save, it gives an error message: select correct template. I don't know what that means. I just want to add games. I tried converting to an un-ordered stack (which should not be irreversible!) I was able to create a new stack ok. However, I am using the default stacks because they are easy to add to on normal game profile pages via pop up and check box.

Wow they're making a new LOTR 2-Player Co-Op. That is such an awesome genre! Me and my friends love that stuff.

I, too, am strapped for cash. If you check out my forum posts and reviews (click on my name), you'll see I'm absorbed int he old games. I can't afford this new stuff! But I sure love the old stuff. I just might have to fork out the cash to play LOTR Aregon's on PS2 though !!!!!!!

(Also: I like the fact that my PS2 is so slim .... I wouldn't want to get rid of it even if I got a next-gen console ... and then I'd have to add whatever to my set for a bulky mess ......)

I always thought of Sega as the poor underdog.

I think timing had a lot to do with their success and failure. I always looked at Sega as actually a little too cutting-edge for their own good.

Did you ever notice the the first best/new generation consoles were always Sega's? Genesis, I am very confident, came out before SNES. Sega CD came before Playstation 1 and was the frist widespread CD gaming console. I also know Dreamcast pre-dated PS2.

The Game Gear and Sega Nomad came out way before Sony and Nintendo had hi-end portables.

Truthfully, if Sega were around now, they might have something better than the current-gen stuff that pushes the others to put out new systems.

The problem is, I feel that Sega pushed so hard to get the absolute best out the absolute quickest -- that when it's time for the long haul (Gen vs. SNES; Dreamcast vs. PS2, X-Box, GameCube), they fell short. The other companies took their time and perfected their technology before they realeased it -- so they did better in the long run.

Sega was just a little ahead of themselves ... but it's what defined them.

I think the reason Sega threw in the towel right in the early days of the Dreamcast is they didn't see a huge reception when it first came out. Perhaps gamers got used to the idea that something better was always going to come out soon after a Sega product and held off. Sega felt that without a huge initial reception, they just couldn't make it.

Atari -- I am not sure they ever made a really serious effort like Sega did. The Jaguar was a potential player to be sure, but I think Sega really fought for their spot ... they really wanted it. I think Atari's success in the 80s came from being in the right place at the right time. No one else did what they did. The evil Nintendo corporation did not exist yet ..........

You've got to see the comparison in the Doki Doki vs SMB2 video. They took the origional Doki Doki and replaced the sprites with Mario characters. The game isn't really a mario game!

Ok; I got this thread locked because I put it in How-To :(

One day I will learn how to GS without getting the moderators upset :?

.

I mostly made this account so I can share what I think and review games. I found I need to get to Level 3 on gamespot so I can. According to this Leveling guide, doing things on the site like posting a blog can help get to this level

.

Game Spot Levelling Guide

http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=26004602&tag=topics%3Btitle

.

I really get frustrated about this trend among sites. Some sites are only letting privelaged users post. That makes a huge reduction of valid and valuable opinions and information available online. one of my favorite sites, webshots.com, finally seemed to start allowing free users to comment on pictures you download and it makes the forum fun to read. When only paid subscribers could post, it was junk. It's good that, I think, you don't need a certain level to post in forums.

.

I will admit, though, this is better than the way GameFAQs handles it. They do a moderated inspection on your reviews (and probably FAQs too) and they won't put it up unless they approve it. I have been waiting days for my GameFAQ review to get approved, and nothing. It took me just 3 days to get my Level 3 on GameSpot and now I have made multiple reviews and gotten user feedback. I am really finally starting to like the social aspect of this site.

.

I suppose all sites these days have to have some protection against spammers, but I always figured giving new users the benefit of the doubt was in order.

.

And yet I have to commend Game Spot for having a clean site with little spam and lots of fantastic information.

.

So what do you guys think? Do you think the Leveling before you can review system is a valuable screening tool or bunk?

Are you guys for real about PS2s dying after time?

I'm using a Ps2 Slim I got used from Game Stop. It was kindof filthy when I got it. I scrubbed it down good to get the crud off it. Then I started treating it nice like I do all my stuff: I put it under the TV and left it there and haven't beat it up or anything.

I have had my PS2 for about 4 years and I promise you it is still going strong. And I have used it for hundreds of hours of gameplay (A lot of Role Playing Gaming, FPS, and DVDs)

One thing I'll note is that when I first got the system, it suffered from overheating. I would play games and half-way in the performance would start go go down (chopping of 3D, etc). Eventually, the game would freeze or reset.

I solved this overheating problem by always playing my PS2 slim in the upright position. I have it wedged right now between the cable box and a cheap phone to keep it standing upright and to allow it to get air on both sides. This has eliminated all overheating problems whatsoever.

Another thing I do is I am careful to almost always only use good disks (not ones that are all scratched up to the heavens). When I buy used, I don't tolerate crappy disks and I take care of mine. I'm also careful to never tuch the laser lense and never get it dirty. I wonder if the system having to struggle to read bad disks wears on it.

So I have gotten hundreds and hundreds of hours out of mine for years and years and have not had a problem. It works as good as the first day I bought it.

I cannot say the same about my first generation PSP -- the screen is getting discolored spots :{

Never was a huge fan of the Game Gear compared to other consoles, but somehow, I've always got stuck with it. When I was a little kid, I was dumb enough to ask for it instead of a genesis because I thought I would be cooler portable. Now, I got Sonic Adventure DX for the PC and I'm like dang -- this comes with 12 game gear games; lets check them out.

.

So Game Gear is like is like the evil stepchild game system that I always get stuck with.

.

Anyways, the best games I've played for the GG are:

- Mortal Kombat (Almost as good as the arcade: A real rarity in quality for the GG)

- Sonic 1, 2, Chaos, and Tripple.

- Mean Bean Machine (Poor graphics, but truely unique and challenging Tetris-Like gameplay)

- Columns (I only played the Genesis version of this Tetris-Like game, but I am sure it's good for the GG)

.
