This is really funny in a "Shia Labeouf Musical" sort of way - it's so absurd, especially when you consider how much effort people had to put in to make this

At first the thought that went through my head was, "why make a guild of only LGBT people? You're basically cutting off a large amount of good players by restricting yourself as such."

But then I remembered that, while the game is about competition and ranks for me, for others it's much more about the community - the same reason people make all-female guilds and guilds from people only in Boston. So, cudos to them - but if they turn around and say they want to be a competitive raiding guild, I'd laugh - the same way I'd laugh at someone trying to make a competitive guild out of all lawyers or all Giants fans.

To me, the problem stems from the fact that video games have evolved into a worldwide pastime instead of a niche hobby. When a game costs a few thousand dollars to make, you're not as afraid to take chances; you dont need the game to be a mega-blockbuster to recoup your initial investment, so you're more free to try out new things. It's this process that led to a "natural selection" of video game mechanics, wherein the best mechanics survived out of dozens that didnt.

However, now that a game can cost millions - if not hundreds of millions - to make, and needs almost as many players to buy the game to be economically viable, even the most creative people will think twice about introducing new concepts.

A new concept is a risk, while a worn one is familiar and easy to predict, and already has a well-established expectation that makes it easier to sell games and pay jobs, stockholders - in effect, allow the company to survive. And when the company survives making a non-revolutionary game, they learn from that lesson, and take that into the next game they make.

I am not condemning the modern video game industry, rather just commenting on how it can go from being so radical and revolutionary in its formative years to more tame and bland today. It's the success itself that's killed progress.
