I love my Wii but I wouldn't say PS3 and 360 aren't fun. I would own all 3 if it were possible, just for specific games that you can't get on the other console. My Wii is getting more play than my PS3 at the moment but that's mainly because I have some great games to play on it, while I'm waiting for games to come(ie: MGSIV, SC IV, Star Wars TFU) for the PS3.

If the Wii was lacking anything, I'd say it's really lacking in RPG's and I hope that gets remedied soon. I'm starving for them as this gen has not been that great for them so far. I mean, it's sad that the PS2 is still getting great RPG's while the newer consoles are lacking.

I'm glad to hear you're liking your Wii, it's a great system... Better than I thought it would be. Hell, it feels great to have Nintendo back as I feel they've been away for a while.

For those that feel it's an FPS, did you play or beat any of the previous Metroid games? Have you played any real FPS's? What FPS has lock on?

Now, using the logic that because you shoot in FP, that makes it an FPS... In Ace Combat you can lock on to your targets and you can play in the FP view... So perhaps Metroid has more in common with Ace Combat? Sounds silly, doesn't it?

lolkie_81

Come on, now your grasping. Yes I have played all the metroids even the handhelds.

I didn't hide the fact that the point was silly. It's to show what I think of your viewpoint. I'm guessing Oblivion is an FPS too?

No, because that would be grasping. Because you can jump and shoot in the first person is not acknowledging the game play and game design. You're only picking out those elements from Prime and ignoring the rest of the game.

I always felt that Goldeneye 64 was the innovator and game that brought mass appeal to the genre for consoles.

[QUOTE="AvIdGaMeR444"]Why is this topic still debated. I've seen topics like this in the past before, and people seem divided. Look at it this way...Metroid Prime is a FPA, not a FPS. No one debated that Mass Effect was an RPG. People aren't saying that Mass Effect is a 3rd person shooter...lolkie_81

Thats because no one really cares what you lable it. Sheep will not admit the prime series is a fps. That is why people debate this. I really dont care what you lable it, Im just saying my 2 cents.

Of course, I could spin things around and say that it's not that sheep that won't admit the Metroid Prime series is an FPS, but that it's the others that won't admit it's an FPA. ;)

I'll leave at this, it's pretty hard to admit what isn't true but unfortunately, without an official definition of what's an FPS, we don't know what the truth is so we're left with believing what we want.

Hmmmm.... lets see a fps is usually a game ,where you shoot in First person view, for the duration of the game. Platforming is in almost all fps now. The only thing that is different is being able to turn into a ball. That dosent happen enough to take away the fps title.

Hmmm... Lets see, a 3rd person shooter is usually a game where you shoot from the 3rd person for the duration of the game. Therefore Mass Effect should be considered a 3rd person shooter and not an RPG.

Please understand one thing, the Prime games don't play anything like any of the FPS's on the market. The only thing in common is the view.

I beat mass effect, it pretty much was a tps. So what, it is what it is. At least i will admit it.

...lol ok then.

I would admit the Prime games were FPS if they were, but they're not. They play nothing like one, save for the view.

in metroid your not shooting for the duration of the game. infact i scan more than i shoot.

You chose to scan... That was boring I only scanned what I had to. Dont nit pick you know this is a fps. SW is the worst forum I have ever been on. Fanboyism is a virus and everyone is infected

You dont have to shoot all the enemies either. If anything, there is more stuff you have to scan than enemies you have to kill.

And scanning is part of the adventure to make the game more immersing. You can find out all sorts of things about the games with scanning. I get the feeling that this horse was long dead and that some will just argue this for the sake of arguing.

I think the Wii gets labeled for being kiddy more than any previous Nintendo console, mainly due to many of the games we all see on store shelves not being of a mature rating.(and quite a bit of shovelware)

I have a different view though... I view the Wii more as a roller coaster. Roller coasters are fun. :P

[QUOTE="Terami"]I've never considered the Prime games to be FPS's even though they're in the FP view. Prime has carried over many of the same adventure and platforming aspects from Metroid and still feels like Metroid because of that. For me, FPA makes more sense. And when you really think about it, Prime really doesn't play like a FPS with it's lock on system and control scheme.lolkie_81

Did you play prime 3? That felt like a "crappy" fps to me. Super Metroid is one of my favorite games of all time so I am no hater. I think the Prime series as a whole sucked and felt like a fps with a few twists.

I own all 3 Prime games. I have played my fair share of FPS and none of the Prime games, even Prime 3, didn't feel like a FPS to me. To me, Prime was meant to feel more immersing than it's predicessors because of the FP view.
