What would it be like, a world with no suffering?Lansdowne5Boring. Without pain and suffering, happiness and pleasure would not exist.

And as for free will being like an experiment for god, it would imply that god is not omnicient, because he doesn't already know what is going to happen. Why not cut to the chase and get on with the judging of all the people who ever lived as soon as he creates them, rather than waiting for them to go through the motions of a game where he set up the rules. Sitri_He could've just done it out of amusement. Not all omniscient beings have to be benign, you know.
That's something that's severely lacking in Western culture, where individualism and self-interest seem to prevail all the time.Lord__DarkstornIs that really a bad thing? Many of the technological innovations we see today are a result of individualism and self-interest.
And also, people who can't think rationally =/= religion123625I know that, I wasn't implying that all. All I said that some irrationally thinking people have a reason not to commit crimes partly because of religion.
Correct! That is, if he gave any hard evidence in his post. He just said that he read that they are more miserable and less happy because they don't give to charity. If that's the case, where is the data from the surveys they presumably took? The links just take you to the books' Amazon pages; a lot of help that'll do. Therefore, his statement is no more valid than my "anecdotal evidence."
Ok then, be that way.:| No fun at all.
Umm.. religion gives people who can't think rationally a reason not to commit murder, rape, etc.?:P
Also, while I don't believe most of the stories in the Bible, they do provide somewhat interesting stories to read once in a while. Oh, and I like that Christianity inspired many of my more favored artists and composers, such as Bach and Michelangelo.
