...we're at the point now, where if Sega doesn't really try to make a good Sonic game to bring back those old fans, the series will run itself into the ground.kbaily

When that day comes, I can only pray that you know who is truly to blame (HINT: It isn't SEGA or Sonic Team.)

Wow, so you actually follow through with purism instead of faking it like half the Sonic fans on GameFAQs? OK, you've gained a bit of my respect back.

I never said you couldn't present your opinion - I'm glad you are. Just be a little less incendiary about it, and I'll be less incendiary if I decide to respond to you. Believe me, the last thing I want is to be vocally at odds with someone.

Basically, if it's not SONIC running FAST without WEAPONS through a PLATFORMER accompanied by LYRICLESS music you can forget it. I'd just assume play Sonic on Genesis.

whoozwah

*sigh*

Why don't you then? If you're that infatuated with the Genesis games, then why don't you stop complaining about the recent ones and just go play them instead? It'll save you a lot of frustration, believe me. Most of your posts as of late have basically been "Genesis Sonic > all,**** you if you think otherwise." No one wants to talk to a purist of any sort: they're too stubborn for their own good, at times.

As far as my standing in the Sonic fanbase, I'm probably a cross between a cynic concerning the fanbase and a borderline hippie. I'm not the type to judge games prematurely, but rather, I actually give the games a chance to see if they shine or suck. I could go on for days about how fractured I think the Sonic fanbase is, but I'll leave that by the wayside.

Basically, it doesn't matter what the game contains. I don't care if it's 2D or 3D, if it has an instrumental or a vocal soundtrack, I don't care if there's weapons or not, I don't care if it's just Sonic or if it's Sonic and some of his friends, I don't care if it's a platformer or not, because in the grand scheme of things, it boils down to this; is the game fun, or is it frustrating? If it's fun, it's a good game. If it's frustrating, obviously, then it isn't a good game.

And in the end, isn't that true for all games?

The GC version is, indeed, the superior version. If you get any version of that game, get the GC one, I can tell you from experience.

X-Play has lost much of my respect now, because they have descended to the level that many of you have descended to. This is why I can't stand the Sonic fanbase as a whole anymore: We've all descended to such a bicker-happy level, all of us want to play armchair developer and make decisions on "what's best for the franchise." Admittedly, I've come up with ideas all of my own, but it's not because I want what's best for Sonic, I just have a bit of an overactive imagination at times.

I will simply ask you all this: Do you seriously want to support the Sonic franchise anymore? If you do, then perhaps you should stop comparing the 3D games with the 2D, for they are clearly radically different from each other, and start actually grading the games based on their clear merits and demerits instead of saying, "It's not like the old games, therefore it sucks," which is what many of you have resorted to doing. By these standards that I now swear by, only two 3D Sonic games come off as unenjoyable to some extent: Sonic Genesis and Sonic '06. If you don't want to support the franchise any longer, then show your distaste for the series in a way that will hurt the most: vote with thine's wallet and stop supporting the franchise. Perhaps then, they could actually get a clue.

Sega could truly care less what the fanbase thinks about the series. So long as their making money, Sonic will continue to exist in this form. There isn't really much we can do about it other than ride the storm out, and when it comes to these kinds of storms, I am a very patient man. I'm in a foul mood right now, so forgive me if I come off as a bit stuck-up, but the Sonic fanbase has devolved to the point where the Final Fantasy fanbase actually looks a tad tame in comparison.

I, too, chose the third option, but on the thread's subject, I do think that Shadow was better than Sonic 06. At least Shadow didn't have some near game-busting glitches and overly-twitchy controls. Unleashed beats both of them out, though.

I've made a set of B-moves for Shadow in the past, but I don't entirely remember when, or where, I posted it up. I know it was here on SonicSpot, though. Allow me to run them down for you:

Normal-B - Spin Dash - Sonic's spin dash, only the leap distance is shorter and it's a bit more powerful.
Up-B - Chaos Control - Standard teleportation with CC, mainly used as an excellent recovery tech.
Side-B - Chaos Spear - You can control its trajectory, much like Pit's arrows, and it can be charged up.
Down-B - Chaos Nightmare - Whatever the hell that one move is where Shadow encases his hands in Chaos energy from Sonic Battle. That could be a sick area attack.

FINAL SMASH: Chaos Blast
This is pretty much the general consensus. Think Star Fox's Smart Bomb on steroids, and add in the fact that you can't be hurt by it. Probably won't be able to score you any points unless someone's already got a decent amount of damage on 'em (think around 70%), but it will cause a lot of damage, and it's unavoidable, like the Ice Climbers' FS on a small stage.

So, there you go. I might think of another one later.

I'm liking the new site. The layout's relatively simple, but I'm sure that those flashy buttons and all that other cool stuff will come with time.

Toby, Venom, and Ariel look around.

"Appears as though we aren't needed," Venom says. "I say we split."

"There are more of these damn things out there, Toby," Ariel says sternly. "There's gotta be another Dark Mass around."

"Well, I don't really want to look for it," Toby replies. "I only have the supplies for a round trip to and from this place. If we're to visit another Dark Mass, we're heading back to the city first."

"Very well," Venom says. "Let's get out of here."

Toby, Venom, and Ariel run off to go back to the boat. They see it still fully intact on the shoreline. Once the three reach the boat, Toby uses his mechanical arm and pushes it effortlessly into the water. The three leap on board and set off for the city, but not without the dark creatures unleashing another torrent of shard bullets at them. Ariel creates a light shield to protect the three from the onslaught.

"I'm not gonna be able to hold this for long!" she shouts. Venom looks down into the cabin and notices one of the tricks Toby had up his sleeve - a portable minigun. Venom's face soon reads a sick smile. He picks the massive weapon up and holds it, then strengthens his body to withstand the recoil.

"Out of my way!" Venom bellows. Ariel steps aside, still keeping the light shield active. Venom "warms up" the minigun until it's ready to fire. Venom nods at Ariel, and she brings a small part of the light shield down, giving Venom a space to fire through. Venom lets the minigun fire, unleashing a torrent of bullets at the dark creatures. Realizing they have a serious threat on their hands, the dark creatures fall back. Venom stops firing the minigun, and Ariel brings the light shield down. Toby cackles with gleeful laughter.

"Dude, that was sick!" Toby remarks. "Never thought you could kick that much ass!"

"There's a lot of **** you don't know about me, Toby," Venom replies. "But as you put it, 'Some things are better left untold.'"

"Got that right," Toby says. "We'll reach the city soon. If I were you, I'd put that damn thing back in the cabin. Lord knows how many bullets you wasted on those damn dark creatures."

Venom puts the minigun back in the cabin of the boat as it races towards the city.

----------------

If you want to blame me for Deus Ex Machina, think twice. Remember back in my last post, when Toby offered his assistance, that Venom said that Toby "always has some kind of trick up his sleeve". The minigun was that trick. Just thought I'd clarify that.
