The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings

While it is a purely cinematic intro to the world, the opening scene sets the mood perfectly for the epic story of the game by taking brave steps to show the somewhat mysterious antagonist in bright daylight right up front. It consists of excellent attention to detail in which a leisurely boat ride quickly goes awry in a grand spectacle of ice, magic and blood all set to a brilliant musical score that begins with haunting classical tones and ends with a crunchy, heavy metal guitar riff. This will always be among my favorite opening sequences for a video game!

Its a shame J.J. Abrams wasn't physically hurt by this game.
