Personally, I am sad that such a giant in the industry finds it necessary to replace a layer of realism with a layer of hyper-sexualization!

For sure it hasn't gotten worse. However, in my humble opinion, it's just that the industry is, for better or worse, going through some major transformations and the JPN developers happen to be lagging behind while the changes take place.

@Renegade_Garrus As someone who have lived and worked in China for a few years, I will say that Chinese people are in fact really open-minded to foreigners.

People are extremely willing to help even if you don't speak Chinese. I don't think a foreigner who doesn't speak English will receive the same treatment in many parts of the US.
