there is no difference between buying a used car and buying a used game, and yet you dont see car manufacturers **** about people buying used cars. if development costs are getting so high that sales cannot cover them, then developers need to learn to get lean and figure out new ways to develop games that will sell, while cutting costs.

@JusticeCovert quality is not mutually exclusive to timeliness. you can have both. the wallstreet journal is considered one of the most successful and trusted publications on the planet, and they just so happen to put out quality in a timely fashion every.......single......day. they are also writing on subjects more complex and of greater importance than videogames will ever be. perhaps if gamespot is starting to realize they can only have timeliness, or quality.... and not both.... it is time for gamespot to consider doing some restructuring. A website like this should not have to post articles such as this to defend itself, especially under the title "Reality Check", as though you are belittling your readership. It makes the website seem petty and childish. Like it is the only one that knows what is up, and nobody that visits the site could possibly know anything about writing/publishing on a deadline. Well, here is a "reality check" for you guys. you have done far more harm than good to your image by posting an article like this. All the majority of people reading this article are going to see is a bunch of excuses written by a defensive staff, rather than results being accomplished by people that know what they are doing. i think the last line of this article says it best: "perhaps what's really needed is an entirely different approach." This, i think, applies to gamespot as an organization, rather than the review process.

reality check gamespot.... you are paid to get game reviews out in a timely fashion. your readers expect it, and the industry expects it. There are atleast 3 other major game websites that i can think of that beat you to reviews every time.... THEY dont seem to have a problem getting reviews out the door on or before the release date. Everyone expects quality food when they go to a really nice restaurant.... that doesnt mean they are OK with waiting 4 hours to get it. the same applies to pretty much every industry, and the businesses that arent able to please their customers eventually disappear. do you want to disappear gamespot?

3DS is simply going to be to expensive to catch on. the whole reason the DS was so successful was because it was an easy impulse buy for adults and not out of reach as a christmas or birthday present for kids. 300 dollars is neither an impulse buy, nor a legitimate price for a christmas or birthday present for most families.

this is going to be the worst selling "very pretty game" in history. there is simply no excuse for 15FPS/19FPS in a game with that kind of rig, EVEN with graphics like that. word of mouth will spread quickly, and you will see friends just loaning their copies to each other or going in on it together just to see the graphics. there will be no online following whatsoever.... i guarantee crysis will not sell well just based on the fact that literally almost no one will be able to run it at a reasonable frame rate. "hard core" pc users (users with SLI $5K+ setups), or in other words the users that may be able to run this game in the 20-30FPS range, are such a small percentage of the market that crytek is going to be lucky to break even. i have no idea what they were thinking in making a game with graphics so advanced that the high end of current gen hardware has no hope of running it at a reasonable frame rate on max. this is EXACTLY why consoles are starting to take over the game market. excellent looking and accessible games at a very reasonable price tag, and no need for upgrades. then again, i say all of this while i sit here putting together my new quad core rig.....

"sirhamalot "Even though Nintendo stole sonys cd technology they have been making video games longer than sony, and Microsoft. Nintendo has been doing this for almost fifty year. ope I think I here sombody geting theire *** kicked lol"" ummm.... 50 years? no. sorry computers were just coming into the world in 1950.... they started making arcade games in the mid 70s, and never even became popular until the mid 80s with the original Nintendo. Sooooooo, at best, 20 years. do a little research before making flippant comments yes?
