@Ring_of_fire: Yes, the issues would still be there, the attempts happend before covid. But i dont like recalls, more so easy ones. Larry was too far right to win.

I can see the value of a recall election in terms of when a governor does something egregious, possibly criminal, but wont resign and is safe from impeachment. Not over disagreements over policy, as this was. That sort of thing should be left to General elections.

@sargentd: Thanks for proving me right. 😉 And the only reason this failed was because of Crazy Larry, a moderate Republican would have won.

Enjoy your ruby red states that dont care about their people.

I do wonder if it would be a given that Newsome would have been recalled if it wasn't for Covid Larry entrance in the race or if it would have been a lot closer than it turned out. But Elder did give the Democrats a perfect opponent for Newsome in a state where Covid was the #1 concern.

That said, I don't mind having a recall mechanic in state constitutions. But it should be more difficult for it trigger and for a legit reason (Like the governor violated a law. Not disagreements over policy), more % of population wanting a recall, and just removal of the current governor and elevate current Lieutenant Governor to top spot for the remainder of term.

This link to the story from Jezebel.com has some more details.

I hope his parents can appeal this. They told him if he was gonna move in with them, not to bring in porn. What does he do? Brings in a dozen boxes of it, moves out, and has the gall to think they're gonna send it out to him?! Hell no! That's a damn biohazard right there. Plus, he's a grown-ass man in 21st century society, why the hell does he have physical porno in this day and age?! And 30 G's worth, on top of it--what, are these first edition collector's items? Get a hard drive like any normal perv! Damn!

Aside from the monetary aspect (because 30K for "used" magazines/videos/Toys seems ridiculous. How did they get to that number?) it doesn't seem like....a bad ruling. Unless they can prove that he abandoned the property by leaving it in the basement for a certain period...It seems the only recourse they had for him breaking the agreement would be removing him from the household.

Then again, I am not a lawyer. I don't even play one on TV!

I've been in the office for the most part for the duration of this, so yes.

@appariti0n: Also agreed. There needs to be severe section 230 reform. I would say that big tech needs to be held accountable. I like the idea that some states have come up with for large fines when infringing free speech.

Why should companies like facebook and Twitter be forced to hold speech on their platforms when there's no obligation on their end to have the content? First amendment doesn't apply to private companies.

@LJS9502_basic: Term limits also encourage the revolving door and last term corruption, no?

Corruption exists now.

I dont think term limits would curb corruption all that much.

I think the only positive for term limits would be to (theoretically) let politicians make decisions without thinking of the ramifications of it come election time, that they can focus on the good of the country rather than their election. But this might just be wishful thinking.
