I've been visiting Gamespot since 1998. Made an account in 2004, forgot my password, and made a new account in 2006.

System Wars was so much fun back then. I remember the PSP vs DS threads. It was a hilarious. During that time, people were convinced that the PSP would destroy the DS. At the time of the PSP launch, the DS hadn't yet recieved a really good game. Sheep fought back with the notorious dead pixels argument, PSP being fragile, and long load times arguments. Lumines was king on the PSP for a while. Sheep trashed the PSP for UMDs. DS finally got a good exclusive when Kirby Cursed Kanvas came out.

E3 2005 was AMAZING! Those "Xbox 360 tampon" and "PS3 George Foreman Grill" photoshops were hilarious. Cows got trashed for the Spider-Man text and boomerang controller. Nintendo's console actually looked slick and had a cool name (Revolution). Nintendo got trashed though when they announced no HD, didn't reveal the controller, or any games. The Killzone 2 trailer was amazing. That was talked about for years. Cows kept claiming it was real footage.

Here are some the memorable events I remember:

Gran Turismo 4 vs Forza

Jade Empire flopping.

MGS3 flopping.

Doom 3 vs Half Life 2

Pariah (Xbox) being hyped for its graphics.

System Wars great back in the day. I can't believe how far these forums have fallen. Most of the best users left either after Twilight Princess flopped or Gerstmann'gate. After that, it was never the same. Looking back, the old System Wars was hilarious and made me a smarter gamer. Now that I think about it, the downfall of System Wars this generation is probably due to the lack of exclusives. It gave users a lot less to argue about.

These 3:

  • The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword: I can't believe it took Nintendo five years to make this crap. It was a failure on almost every level. The graphics sucked. The motion controls required CONSTANT recalibrating. The "overworld" was segmented. Despite having orchestrated music, the game had no memorable tunes. Link doesn't look heroic AT ALL. There is so much I hate about this game, I won't bother explaining the rest.
  • Resident Evil 5: Not a bad game, but co-op severely damages what could have been a great game. The inclusion of Sheva as a co-op partner at all. Having co-op also meant that they had to get rid of attache case of RE4. Now we're stuck with an inventory system where an egg takes up the same space as a gatling gun. While I liked the African setting, it wasn't really scary. I think the DLC "Lost In Nightmares" is a great model for what modern Resident Evil should be.
  • Metal Gear Solid 4: I was so hyped for this game. It's the biggest reason I bought a PS3. As a huge fan of the series, I appreciate that Hideo Kojima tied up all of the storylines. He just didn't do it very well. Why does the game have 5 seperate installs? Even for MGS, the cutscenes were overly long and self-indulgent. This problem was exacerbated by chapter system in which we watched the chapter ending/mission briefing/chapter opening back to back. That's a long time to go without actually playing the game. It was pointless to use stealth this time around. Stealth is suppose to easier than going "guns blazing". In MGS4, it's the exact opposite. It's much easier to "run and gun" than to use stealth. This is due the Drebin Store and your access to a sniper rifle so early on (not to mention endless silencers). It turns out that nanomachines are responsible for every thing in MGS.

Ratchet and Clank was immensely successful in Japan.

It was the first western game to be bundled with a console in Japan and it's also the first western game to break into their top 100.

Just recently, RAGE. Reading the early impressions/reviews, I decided to cancel my preorder. Unfortunately, my order was already processed.

The game was okay, definitely not worth the money. Non-existant story and a short campaign. You were just an errand boy.

2007 was a legendary year with an amazing balance between new and exisiting IPs. I don't think it will ever be topped.

2011 has been a good year for the most part (Nintendo dropped the ball though). While this fall looks amazing, it's not on the level of 2007.

After the disasterous failure of the 3DS and the Wii U's horrible showing at E3, my faith in Nintendo has been shaken.

I don't plan on buying the Wii U until Nintendo actually gives me a reason to be excited.

A lot of dumb decisions have been made the Wii U so far, hopefully Nintendo can correct them before it's too late.

The hype for Twilight Princess was incredible. I can still remember Gerstmann giving it an 8.8 and the backlash that insued.

Skyward Sword doesn't have much hype due to the art style, dissatifaction with the Wii, and the motion controls.

I'm very much looking forward to Skyward Sword though. It's my only 100% day one purchase for the rest of the year.

As of right now, it's Deus Ex 3. I doubt it will stay that way though.

It's likely to be one of the following: RAGE, Batman, Uncharted 3, Zelda.

I'm also planning to buy Uncharted 3, Batman Arkham City, RAGE, and Metal Gear Solid HD Collection.
