Hey all, The WII U will be out next year its looking alright at the moment. However after whats been happening with the 3ds the poor sales, No aaa titles, And the new 2nd circle pad attachment coming out is this really a good idea to pre order the WII U on release day. I am one of them suckers that did buy the 3ds on launch and I love it to bits although I feel let down by Nintendo. Is it really worth taking the same risk with the WII U and buy it on release day. What will you guys be doing.? Buying on release or waiting thanks.

Definitely a day one purchase for me. Anyone buying any console on launch day rather than waiting thinks that the price paid is worth it at the time. That shouldn't change if the price is lowered later on down the line. And it's not as if anyone that bought the 3DS before the price cut got burned thanks to the Ambassador Program. I'm the sort of geek that gets a real buzz out of getting new gadgets on launch day, I took 2 days off work when I got my Wii lol

As a rule of thumb, I don't buy consoles/hardware/anything on their launch dates. I'd much rather get the perked up, cheaper and fixed version that is released a few months later.

Unless they offer a really good, and long, trust-worthy warranty.

I won't be buying it day one, but it doesn't have anything to do with the 3DS.

3DS poor sales? Seriously, I expect better from a videogame forum. I won't buy it on launch, but that has nothing to do with the 3DS and its (non) poor sales.

Yes. There is still probably more than a year left before the Wii U launches, thats more than enough time for Nintendo to learn from trial and error with the 3DS.

Yeah it does have something to do with the 3ds. Nintendo made the 3ds and made some mistakes. Who's to say this won't happen again if we all rush out to buy it. I am asking this question because I want a WII U so badly and am willing to take that risk. I just don't want to get caught out again.

People are blowing this 3DS stuff way out of proportion, this is not the first hardware to have issues out the gate, from a software, hardware or price perspectives; on top of that these issues on the 3DS are rather tame compared to other platforms that have suffered with this. This is not even Nintendo's first go at these issues and it wont be their last either. But like another poster said, it all depends on what the console launches with, I don't avoid hardware waiting for the inevitable price drop because that is a wait that never ends or in fear of hardware issues. because unless it is an undeniable flaw in the design, those issues aren't going anywhere either.

Yes I will I love the fact that I purchased the Wii at launch it gave me a better opportunity to purchase more games then I ever had for a system.

When I don't purchase at launch I miss out on a lot of great games because I don't feel like playing catch up. If their is a huge drought then yeah I would play catch up but if there isn't a drought I will miss out on all the games that was released before I purchased the console.

If it has a good library of games probably but that's only part of it. I need to feel and see how the controller works first.

Gamecube price was also cut within its first year. We didn't get any compensation for that and I didn't care either. Gotta expect that if you buy a new console.

I know I will. But all this indecisiveness with the 3DS isn't helping that at all. I mean, the Wii U will use the Tab Controller and Wiimotes, what more could you honestly add? Knowing Nintendo, they'll find something to add. I'm just hoping I have a Wii U come early as possible, like the rumored June 2012. Although there is the possiblity of a fall launch, which I think could end up bad/good depending on what Nintendo's competitors do or don't do.

If Nintendo couldn't hold out just a few months longer and let the 3DS run its course at $250 through one holiday season, there's a problem somewhere .

Well, it costs $150 instead of $250, comes with a wii remoteplus instead of a wii remote, comes with a wii remote jacket, comes with the new wrist strap, comes with the box that won't scratch your copy of Wii Sports, comes with an extra game that you spent $50 for it. It's quite a difference.

There's nothing different about the actual hardware.

I'll be waiting. My interest in Nintendo games has lowered recently but that could just be because they are slowing down for the Wii U. I am getting Zelda SS and the new Rune Factoryfor Wii but I'm gonna wait til the Wii U has a decent library before I spend the money on it

Its called not being arrogant, meeting the consumer half way as opposed to demanding they just come around. That "Hold out" routine has never worked and will never work.

I will see the line-up of launch games (expecting a new Mario or new Metroid or new Zelda title in it) then decide *this is what I say now*...but knowing me, I will end up buy it on launch day or preorder it. :P

The 3DS is the first and last console I buy on launch.

ANIMEguy10034

Same for me. I picked up a DS Lite in 2006 and picked up a brand new Wii recently. Couldn't be more happier with either purchase.

Out of character, I picked up a 3DS on launch day. I feel like if I waited I could have saved cash, benefitted from a better and more efficient hardware revision, and gotten access to a more developed library of games.

The timing of the release is a perspective.

The DS models were still selling quite nicely from the DS Lite and DSi, and the DSiXL was still fairly new andNintendo didn't have to release the 3DS as early as March and would've given a little more space between the DS models. Had they released the 3DS in July the 3DS just might have been kept at $249.99 through the holiday season.

depends how much it costs, how much they market it, and if I can sell them on Ebay!

for me to get one..... really depends on price, and software at launch, and the upcoming games in the future after launch. I'm not buying another console on hopes of cool new ways to play games, and none of the games I want to play ever come out for the system.

It depends on the price and the games available. The 3DS situation is unlikely to apply if the Wii U has some solid launch titles and is sold at a reasonable price.

I will be getting it on launch day. I've bought every Nintendo system on launch day starting with the Gamecube. Being there for launch of the system is really exciting and I wouldn't miss it for anything. The 3DS thing has been blown too much out of proportion (most likely due to lack of games for every Nintendo system this year causing game editors to have nothing else to write about). It's already picking up and should be in pretty good shape by the end of the year. Plenty of systems have had bad launches and turned out okay. The most recent example is the PS3. That system was hated after launch but has rebounded and it's already surpassed the SNES in wordwide sales as the 10th most successful system ever. The 3DS will never match DS sales but I still think it will do pretty good.

Absolutely not. Even if there are games I'm interested in at launch, I'll wait at least a month to see what sort of hardware glitches there are with it. And at that point I might as well wait another four months for the price drop.
