by these guys do you mean the "rebs". Yes. Also, it has nothing to do with Obama thinking they deserve support and everything to do with wrestling control of Syria's oil pipelines out of Assad's hands.[QUOTE="Rhazakna"]It's such a shame that Obama hasn't used the violent authority of the State to force us all to fund a military effort to help these guys. They're clearly so deserving of aid.whipassmt
I knew people who were talking about Obama giving them phones before the video came out. Searching for "Obama phone" links to the video and stories about the video, so finding other contemporary examples would take hours of scouring. Even if there was no other example, the meme was not a creation of the right wing media, it was made by Obama supporters and recipients of "Obama phones".[QUOTE="Rhazakna"][QUOTE="GreySeal9"]
Examples of this besides that one video?

I don't put much stock in anecdotal evidence.
Rightwingers might have not "created" the meme from stratch, but they absolutely did take that specific video and tried to give it more significance than it deserved.
I'm not asking you to put any stock into it, but if you're asking me whether or not the perception among some recipients was that Obama was giving them phones, I can tell you with certainty that it was. Obviously that doesn't mean anything to you, but I can't just ignore what I know to be true because I can't prove it to a third party over the internet. The video is a microcosm of a real aspect among certain Obama supporters, like the woman who said she wouldn't have to pay her mortgage if he got elected. The right might have overblown it somewhat, but their point was that it's indicative of a trend among some Obama supporters who like him for bad reasons-like the phone or the fact that he's black. This is true, and anyone who denies it either isn't paying attention or is in active denial.[QUOTE="Rhazakna"]The "Obama phone" meme came about because that's what people who use them call it. One woman in particular helped popularize the term, when she was in a viral video screaming about how she loved the phone. Blame the recipients, they're the ones who started calling them "Obama phones", the right wing media just ran with the meme.

The commentators were pundits, not journalists. Their main contention as I recall was that it was an example of Obama voters supporting him because of the free stuff they thought they were getting for him. I don't remember anyone saying he started some costly program to give people cell phones.[QUOTE="Rhazakna"][QUOTE="worlock77"]
Nah, I'll blame the media for shitty journalism.

May I ask what exactly you're referring to here? I honestly don't know, as I don't really watch television anymore (haven't in years). Furthermore may I ask the relevance here? My comments were in response to other user's (such as AmazonTreeBoa) comments, not to some right wing media program from whenever.
AmazonTreeBoa is part of the media now?[QUOTE="Rhazakna"]
