As much as I enjoyed Super Metroid I believe Metroid Prime should be on the top spot. It hit all the right touches as far as atmosphere and mood. I felt like it captured the dolor look and the desolation of all the areas you had to explore. And on that note I felt Prime did a much better job on the exploration aspect of the game than Super Metroid. SM was mostly just blindly shooting walls and corners hoping for a secret passageway. Metroid Prime gave you hints and clues, forcing the player to make good use of the scan feature when a small detail looked amiss, and the handholding was minimal.
Don't get me wrong SM was great (combat was definitely better than Prime) but as far as what the Metroid series was known for (exploration, atmosphere) then Prime should be the top spot as it's a glowing example of how to do a Metroid game right.
Wow, the same talking points from almost a decade ago when Bayonetta 2 was released. Get over yourself and buy a Nintendo console if you want to play Nintendo games. Gamers are such pathetic bastards, huh?
