@cerealzateu Pretty much, yes. Mr. McShea's obvious dislike of the source material doomed this review from the very start. It became somewhat of an ultimatum: Fix what I didn't like about the original or feel my wrath.

We know how that turned out.

Remastered never had a chance under McShea's experience.

@gantarat That is foolish and accomplishes nothing. Attack the message, respect the person.

@Nintendo_Man Problem is that "fixing" the game was never the intent of development. The game was well-received by plenty of players, and it's not incumbent upon WayForward to alter the original work. The problem comes when players who aren't familiar with the original expect something closer to today's platformers in terms of accessibility and ease.

It's a shame, really, that someone who didn't like the source material is assigned to review a remastered version of the same game. I'm not sure what the agenda is with this review, to be honest. Is it aimed at the minority crowd who aren't familiar with the original? It's been clear from the beginning that Capcom was playing to fans of the NES game, staying relatively true to it while adding a few current-generation touches to make it fit in with today's games in terms of aesthetics.

Capcom and WayForward never intended to "fix" what was (arguably) wrong with the original game. If that's what Mr. McShea's agenda was here-- to make his poor experience with the original game-- better, then his opinion was doomed from the start.

I hope that someone is found to review the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD remasters that disliked the original games, too. This review, as it stands, is a shame.
