Ok, I bought BC2 on PC the other day (physical copy, already have console version too), when it arrives I will tell you how the online pass goes... assuming PC version also uses it?

SaltyMeatballs
Cool. I am sure that the majority of games/codes are fine, but to find out how bad they treat you when there is a problem is what I am trying to highlight here.

The free DLC for Zaeed that came with my new copy of ME2 i ordered from amazon was already used when i put it in and EA wouldn't believe that i hadn't bought it used. Luckily amazon have proper customer service so when i explained my problem to them i had a new code e-mailed to me no questions asked. Not as big a deal as an online pass not working but it is one of the ways they are trying to stop people buying used.SirDigby84
In my case it was quite simple for me to e-mail proof to EA but they just weren't interested in helping as you can read. I agree Amazon have always set a good standard for customer service IMO.

Dalton S.: If possible I would take back the original copy and get a new one or contact Microsoft for the code.

: So why do you have an invalid code?!?

: Its a PS3 version

: The shop I bought it from said contact you

Dalton S.: I do not have any more codes to try I would contact Microsoft because they publish the game.

: For Sony Playstation?

Dalton S.: not publish sorry they made the game.

Dalton S.: Yes.

: Doesn't sound true Microsoft making games for PS3

Dalton S.: Epic Made the game owned by Microsoft.

Dude, you deserve the poor service. You have absolutely no idea what the **** you are talking about. Epic and Microsoft have nothing to do with each other besides a publishing deal for 3 Gears of War games, with following games eventually ending up on numerous platforms.

Epic Games is an independent developer/publisher and they make games for all platforms. Microsoft is warping people's understanding of intellectual property rights and the difference between developers and publishers.

EDIT: I just realized that the representative is the one posting that information and not you. Your dialog should be noted as "Me" or your GameSpot username to help us distinguish the two.

Thanks I have changed my responses to Me

Not a system wars topic as such but I think here it will get more exposure. I think we need to boycott games with online pass codes. I am leaving a transcript of my experience with EA customer service. It speaks for itself really but notice the lack of attention to what I was saying and the general apathy towards my problem.

Karen: Hi, my name is Karen. How may I help you?

Me : Hi I have just bought a neew copy of Bulletstorm and the box and manual say I am entitled to some free content however the space where the code should be on the manual is completely blank.

Karen: From where have you purchased the game?

Me: Game, I have contacted them and they say I need to contact you.

Karen: Okay

Karen: You need to replace this code from our warranty department.

Karen: Please go through the link and Obtain a Replacement Registration Code

Link: http://support.ea.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/33

Me: I live in the UK

Me: Also its a lot to ask for just to get a code for an error your manufacturing people have made

Me: I can send a picture of the back of the manual by e-mail if required

Karen: I am sorry but in this case you need to contact our warranty department.

Me: terrible service really and you have ignored I live in the UK not North America.

Karen: Okay

Karen: Please stay connected while i am escalating your issue to tier 2

Karen has disconnected.

Dalton S.: Hi, my name is Dalton S.. How may I help you?

Me: Can you read the previous discussion?

Dalton S.: Please give me a moment while I review the Chat Log so that I can understand exactly what the issue you are having is today and the troubleshooting steps that have already been done. Your time is very valuable to me and I do not want to waste it by doing troubleshooting steps we have already followed through with.

Dalton S.: What content are you missing?

Me: Its the code on the back of the manual. It says activate your online pass and below there is a white box but there is nothing printed there

Dalton S.: R9FL-FDNA-LK7K Online pass PS3

Me: Thanks, do you want me to check it while you are still connected

Me: It says the code is either invalid or incorrect

Dalton S.: are you in the UK?

Me: yes

Dalton S.: that is the only code I have for the PS3 version.

Dalton S.: If possible I would take back the original copy and get a new one or contact Microsoft for the code.

Me: So why do you have an invalid code?!?

Me: Its a PS3 version

Me: The shop I bought it from said contact you

Dalton S.: I do not have any more codes to try I would contact Microsoft because they publish the game.

Me: For Sony Playstation?

Dalton S.: not publish sorry they made the game.

Dalton S.: Yes.

Me: Doesn't sound true Microsoft making games for PS3

Dalton S.: Epic Made the game owned by Microsoft.

Dalton S.: 7E7B-7ANT-KP36 Try this new code.

Dalton S.: But other than that its the only code I have in my system.

Me: Nope. This has been a completely useless exercise. I buy a lot of games from EA and this is the service I get. I will think twice before buying from now on.

Dalton S.: I do apologize Is there anything else I can do for you Today?

Me: Yes forward a complaint to your boss for the extremely inflexible way in which you and your colleague have dealt with my problem and also make them aware that I will be making sure that other gamers hear about it.

Dalton S.: I do apologize you feel this way but please understand the game is made by Epic and we are publisher we are only given what Epic grants us :/

Dalton S.: You are more than welcome to report this to the forums!

Dalton S.: Thank you so much and have a great day today sir!

Dalton S. has disconnected.

Do you put your 360 horizontally or vertically? Avoid putting it vertically by all means.

fend_oblivion
I think you're right, I had my new 360 vertical for a while and thats whats caused it. Must only take the slightest bit of vibration like knocking the tv cabinet for it to scratch the disks. Will keep it horizontal and cross my fingers, hopefully (if they are making it) the Xbox 360 slim will fix this.

FFS, what does it matter if there are rings on your discs as long as they work. Do you use them as mirrors to shave in the morning? As for your question. I recently bought a new unit and new games I've played on it have no rings on the disc. Some of my older games have a very faint wee ring on them but not something I'da noticed unless really checking. Only games from 2007 have visible scratches but they all still work.-eddy-
I can see your point of view mate but it makes it difficult to sell them on eBay.

You don't necessarily have to move the xbox while its on. The discs are spinning fast enough that any kind of vibration can make a slight ring on them. It's weird that ALL of your games have it though... Do you keep your xbox vertical or horizontal? If its vertical that might be the problem.

firefox59
Not all the games have, what I meant was all the games used with my original xbox 360 have the scratched circle. I did have my new xbox 360 vertical for a time (needed the space) and funnily enough when MW2 came out I had it that way. I just can't believe it would have moved enough to scratch the disc, if it has that is a serious design flaw.

my mw2 game broke and i had to get a replacement becasuse the clear middle ring cracked.

pablohammy
Never had this problem on my 360. Had a CD ROM disc years ago with a crack on the clear bit of Command and Conquer Generals disk on my PC, EA were spot on sent a new disk no charge when I sent my original one in.

That's really weird. I've owned three Xbox's so far and none of them have scratched any of my disc. Most if not all of my disc are in perfect condition and if there is a scratch on it I wouldn't blame the system but myself for perhaps getting it a little scratched while swapping disc.

DamianAlexander
These are like perfect circles around the whole edge of the discs not the normal sort of scuffs that you sometimes get from removing the discs.
