It's the freaking OS...

That is what you are really paying for.

samuraiguns

You are not getting the Windows OS for free when you buy a prebuilt computer either, brah. The OS's costs the same. It is ONLY the "design" you pay for (and quite frankly, who cares that much if your laptop is white or black?)

Hey guys! I really want to play some good shoot em up games, but I have trouble finding them. I just don't know where to look :(

I would like some shoot em up games for PC with good graphics, where you shoot planes or something and collect powerups and buy new weapons, and all that stuff. Could someone recommend me some?

Oh, and one more question: I remember playing one shoot em up some time ago, where you flew a plane in space and could buy bombs and all kinds of weapons, and in some levels you also flew in a jetpack. It was called something with "... Gold", What is that game?

9800GT ehh?

Because I had a 9600GT, and I had somewhat the same problem as you. Half my games would completely randomly just restart (BSOD) my computer after between 5 minutes and 1 hour. The other half of my games worked perfectly. It was no heat-issue or driver-issue or any other thing, just bad production.

You can try reading through this thread, and googling a little. Maybe this is the problems you suffer?

It is a HUGE problem on A LOT of the recent nVidia cards. And nVidia won't even say they screwed up....

you pay for a game for $60 dollars, play it for 10 hours, pay for $5 xbox live to even play it online(for about 10 hours as well), and repeat the next month. With WoW, you pay $20 for the disc and the first month combined, then less than or equal to $15 a month, and get 10's if not hundreds of hours in each month. If anything it is cheaper to be an MMO gamer because of how much gameplay you're getting for how much money you spend.

Strong straw-man you got there.

Games for the PC costs only 40$ new, much less used. Most PC-games have free mods too, many which are of the same quality or higher than the original content.

Games like Unreal Tournament, Jedi Academy, Elder Scrolls-series, Warcraft 3, Quake 3, Half-Life-series have almost unlimited amount of FUN playtime combined with thousands of mods. Pretty much zero percentage of the playtime is "grinding", or spend listening to kids.

I have played City of Heroes myself for a couple months, so its not that I have something against MMO's, I just have something against blatant fanboys!!

Thus I thought so for a while, but I have come to the conclusion that playing subscription based games, are garbage.

Community? And World of Warcraft? Of all god forsaken grinding games, World of Warcraft has the most lame un-cool bunch of 12 year olds that reigned supreme in Diablo and other Battle.Net products before WoW.

I got no problem paying a monthly fee, I played 3 MMOs at the same time for almost a year a while ago.

My analysis of the incompetence of MMOs is simple - I belive that the groundbreaking definition of game... In any sort of game. Not just computer games, but card games, board games, childrens game, mind games and all other kinds of games, is that the game can end and that it can be won. Not all games can be lost tho. But all games can end.

However, in MMOs like WoW it just does never end. It's already been discussed about many people. It's the fabled "carrot on a stick" syndrom. Your virtual avatar is chasing goals which can be conqured but never be realised, because it never ends. Therefore the game has no meaning.

Upon playing MMOs it's biggest force is the immersive feeling. Suddenly your in this other world, however while your immersed in this world you dont realise how much time you spent doing stupid crap and repetitive tasks - Doing things that you dont enjoy for ultimately getting a reward(a carrot). After getting the carrot you feel that your tedious time spent playing(grinding, moving around from point a to point b) was worthwhile because you got the reward.
I hate this. I think that every second you play a game that it should be fun.

The thing is that MMOs are just not fun. You do these things that are required of you - Tasks and challanges which don't test your brain or your eye cordination. It' has been proven in countless studies that playing hard strategic games or fast paced shooters can increase your capacitiy to think or help you concentrate, and that fast paced action games like counter-strike will improve your reaction time. LuffyTubby

A lot of games CAN NOT end. Have you ever tried Garry's Mod? That is probably one of the coolest games there is.

Many other good games can't be ended too, like you described WoW, like The Elder Scrolls series
