Gears1 had incredible lighting and shadows, Indicative of the type of game its meant to be, a horror game. Gears 2 ditched all that for an action game, making it a bit trivial. The loss of rain, and atmosphere, was probably a necessity in order to create larger maps and hold 2 more detailed players. Either way, the repeating textures and boring geometry is a lot more evident in gears 2. A good example is that shot of the dresser in the sniping section of the mansion. That dresser is incredibly detailed in gears 1, in gears 2 it is just a box. And lets not get into the reduced draw distance in gears 2 thats reminiscent of the horrible draw distance Fog in most N64 games. In closing Gears of War was an experience. Gears of War 2 was just a game.
Glad to see this was made because the differences arent really obvious enough, So we need a crack commando team of nerds to show us how much better it is and why we NEED to appreciate it
Ehhh, way too much whining from gamespot.. With the Exception of Jeff. Everyone needs to take a chill pill and stop the bellying aching. This Event isn't about you, or how inconvenienced you are, its about the games. Don't forget that. Also While I don't work at GameStop, don't insult their presence there either. Those guys work very hard at what they do, and have every right to be there, more so, since they are the Point of Sale and need to be knowledgeable of their products, and considering how dumbfounded and unprepared half of you guys are when discussing games while 'on the spot', I would say they do a better job of providing us info, than the half of you that do. Minus the need for any pampering.
hahah the maker of this article must think we are blind. aside from higher resolutions these are the same models... come on even the warthog in the secondshot has less details! this isnt a bad thing.. I would rather have a solid framerate for 16players than to get a supergoodlooking game with choppy play.... THAT being said tho.. I expected something more revolutionary for a game they expect us to pay 129 bucks for (for the extras)....
People keep Saying the graphics will get better. I sincerely doubt it. Its a beta because they are working out the bugs and final details,. this is pretty much it. the polygon count is similar if not exactly the same has halo2.... the Normal Maps and effects is what makes it so solid lookin.. and to be honest, some extra weapons and some extra modes that where originally left out to begin with hardly constitutes a sequal.. this is more like "HALO2-FINISHED" that said this isnt a bad thing, the BETA is ALOT OF FUN.. which is what is important.
