[QUOTE="MetalGear_Ninty"]I graduated with a 2:1 from Cambridge actually. You're acting as if only North Americans keep cats as pets. South Americans do keep cats as pets which is why there is a backlash. N30F3N1X

And I taught quantum mechanics to Feynmann and Sommerfeld and calculus to Lagrange and Legendre.

There is backlash for beef, cow and chicken too. Hur dur

It is fine if you don't believe me. Yes, there is. But there is a specific reaction to the consumption of cat in Peru, which is why you have a politician in that country demanding a ban on cat-eating. I would wager that same politician is not asking for a ban on the consumption of beef or poultry.

[QUOTE="MetalGear_Ninty"]Are you challenging the basic concept of number? Do you not accept that the more people possess an attitude or belief in a society than the more that belief will affect societal values as a whole. Are you really trying to tell me that there is no difference between 1 pet owner in a country and a few million pet owners?N30F3N1X

Good job, you just dismantled your own point and argued in favor of mine. Do you not understand that the very same point you are making could be made from peruvians about americans eating beef?

It's you who is challenging the basic concept of number, as your outlandish claims show your lack of logic skills, proper thought process and affinity with mathematics. Let me guess, you didn't just "drop" out of high school, you didn't even make it to high school, did you?

As a vegetarian, I support the consumption of domesticated animals.  I think it brings to light the petty distinctions we try to make between animals that are acceptable to eat and ones that are not.  I think people who really have a problem with this should be asking themselves whether it's really any different than eating a cow or a pig.

theone86
There is a valid distinction. Cats and dogs are traditionally viewed in society as pets, pigs and cows aren't.

[QUOTE="MetalGear_Ninty"]Hardly anybody keeps chickens as pets.N30F3N1X

What the hell does it matter? And who tells you it's any different for Peruvians in regards to cats?

Also did you know that up until a century-a century and a half ago, people kept pigs in their own houses because they couldn't afford proper stables? That never stopped anyone from butchering pigs.

Are you challenging the basic concept of number? Do you not accept that the more people possess an attitude or belief in a society then the more that belief will affect societal values as a whole?

Are you really trying to tell me that there is no difference between 1 pet owner in a country and a few million pet owners?

Haha, MetalGear_Ninty is getting destroyed in this thread.

Nope. I thinking I am doing really well actually. My arguments are standing up strong, and nobody has really been able to touch them thus far.

[QUOTE="thegerg"][QUOTE="MetalGear_Ninty"][QUOTE="thegerg"] There are also protests about Americans eating chicken. Just sayin'.

I'm not an expert on Latin America, but I think they keep cats and dogs as house pets as well.

Neither am I, but I do know that Americans keep chickens as pets.

Hardly anybody keeps chickens as pets.

Well there was some protest to the action, so I assume they share similar cultural values in that regard

[QUOTE="MetalGear_Ninty"] Who the hell are you? :| Do you accept that society views animals like cats and dogs differently to how they view traditional livestock? Yes or no I don't know why everyone here is having trouble with this simple concept...it really isn't that hard.thegerg

Where do you draw the line? The post I quoted doesn't give any criteria since it changes geographically and culturally and therefore has no meanig at all. In fact, who the hell are YOU to think you're entitled to drawing the line?

[QUOTE="supa_badman"]

Besides, as latinos, there really isn't much sentimentality with animals/pets.

Much of latin america has a 'I can simply just replace it' attitude

Master_Live
Stereotype much?

What's wrong with stereotypes? Almost all stereotypes are true.

[QUOTE="MetalGear_Ninty"]The difference is in quantity. Far more people keep cats as pets then they do chickens and pigs. If my family kept pigs as pets when I was younger, I probably wouldn't eat pork.N30F3N1X

Hahaha good god what a bullshit argument.
