About the death of garage-based companies who they can't publish their games because the aforementioned Jabba-the-software-giant refuses to touch anything that doesn't fit into a well-trodden generic pigeonhole? Articles like this are why I don't come to Gameslop any more. They are now the same thing that the former editors railed against. You completely lost any journalistic integrity you had (which used to be huge) when you let your scumbag overlords at CNet tell you how to do your jobs by firing and driving away your best talent. Ahh. . . the NES spring loader. I remember when my younger brother's NES stopped working with certain cartridges. He tried everything listed, plus a few other 'unorthodox' ones as well. Nothing worked for very long (like 10 minutes). So, being the intrepid engineer I finally turned out to be, I took his NES apart when he wasn't home. I figured that the plug-in contacts had become loose in places, and I proceeded to 'tighten them up' . My brother came home later to find me wailing away on Blades of Steel and asked me how I got it to work. I just smiled and told him to shut up and come get his ass-whippin'. Everything was coolio until we went to take the cart out and play a different game. The darn thing wouldn't budge. Apparently, my first foray into 'modding' a console worked a little too well. We had to pry the cart out with a pair of needle nose pliers. And just about every other cart after that for a year or so. Oh the memories.
