I loved Half Life 2's intro. Going through the train station and running from the combine just set the mood for the whole game.

Hmm Snake Eater certainly has a superb (if not perfect?) health recovery system, however the only way i'd improve it is to make the actions in real-time, so basically you can select what to do but once the menu is closed Big Boss gets to work with disinfectant bandages and the like.

Maximus_Fett
so basically you actually get to see him heal himself?

Im making a menu for a game in photoshop and I want to make it look like I drew on a paper with a pencil realistically At least like this

Someone mentioned a good tool/brush preset would help, I have Photoshop CS5, does anyone know any good ones?

I do like the MGS3 concept, but not every game can do that.EmptySki
I think it would work great for an open game, like free roam or just generally lots of exploring, not for Halo or COD which is constant shooting.

Trying to argue about what is the most realistic health system is totally nuts. None of them even approach reality, and most of them exist in games where they are far from the worst offenders when it comes to being unrealistic.Think about it this way- if Snake was a real person, he would be down from a shot to the leg, and would probably limp the rest of the game. If he broke his bones, he would be on crutches for months, and wouldn't be able to instantly set it and get back to murdering dudes. Having a character recover from gunshots byusing gause or eating some food is barely less ridiculous than a character who recovers from gunshot wounds after taking a quick break.

Since we have already established that MGS3 is totally nuts and not realistic at all, what we have left is what is going on with the actual game. Does having health be a resource that has to be managed a good thing? Or is it better to have to not worry about it? I think it depends on the game, but even within the game itself, MGS3's system was poorly implemented and hidden behind a bunch of options. MGS4 steamlined the whole system so that maintaining your health didn't mean pushing start.

I get what your saying, and I 100% agree with you, butIm not really trying to see what the most REALISTIC health system is Im trying to see the BEST. which means, most fun most interesting and people just enjoyed and agreed with the most. I liked the step MGS 3's was taking, I didnt necessarily love the crappy slow menu flipping, but the step it was taking in getting away from magic medkits was what I liked. and I havent played MGS 4 so Ill have to look up its health system.

[QUOTE="LoG-Sacrament"]as an american, i feel left out. i know the rest of the world already hates us, but they havent made a video game about it. WreckEm711
This, I would actually love to see someone make a decent effort at a game with the U.S. as the badguy for a nice break from the usual and possibly a really unique experience

Im American too and i would love to play a game that has the U.S. as bad guys, it would be really interesting. Or even a new Civil War (not South VS. North) but a modern civil war where you use terrorist tactics with occasional all out battles and you play as the terrorists/revolutionaries.

And still the questions stands, what would the perfect health system be?

And maybe like Left 4 Dead (though I didnt like the game very much) something like pain pills that temporarily either stops your health from dropping or just bumps your health up a bit for when your in the heat of battle and dont have time to heal. then afterwards you could go into the healing menu.
