@brightamethyst:
It's not all Sony's fault the Vita failed outside of Asia/Japan. Poor marketing and expensive proprietary memory cards were all Sony's fault, but the other reasons weren't really Sony's fault. Western third party developers have almost no interest in developing games for dedicated handhelds, although Japanese third party developers did fill in that void for the Vita.

Sony did attempt to support the Vita near the beginning of its life cycle, but Sony fans aren't like Nintendo fans who will eat up almost all games they put out. Nintendo can basically support its own systems using their IPs alone because Nintendo owns some of the biggest IPs in video games and legions of fans who are passionate enough to eat up almost everything they release. Sony does have some notable IPs of its own, but they pale in comparison to Nintendo's line-up. Plus, Sony fans don't have the same kind of passion for Sony's games that Nintendo fans have for Nintendo games.

I'm lucky I haven't been on my PS3 in over a week now because I haven't updated to the 4.45 firmware yet. I'll avoid this update until another update is released.

Wii U really needs more M rated games to be more appealing to young and middle aged adults who are playing games on Xbox 360 and PS3. More diversity of games is always a good thing.

However, Nintendo doesn't do M rated games, so it's up to third-party developers to provide the Wii U with a library of M rated games. I think third-party developers are mostly ignoring the Wii U because they don't think it's right to have their M rated games associated with a console they think is "too kiddie". Not to mention, they might also want to keep their M rated games away from young children and that means not putting them on Wii U

I have to imagine if the Xbox One supports 4K for games, no developer would be willing to use it because 4KTV's will not be widely available for at least 5 years. PS4's lack of 4K support for games would discourage multi-platform development in 4K because developers can't port the game to PS4 without seriously downgrading the graphics.

Supporting the Wii until 2017? Considering the Wii is a generation behind the PS3 and 360, it's probably just better to drop support for the Wii by the end of this year and switch over to Wii U instead.

@sladakrobot @Random_Matt Yeah, Xbox is also very popular in the UK as well, But outside the UK and US, it's not as popular. In particular, it has very little appeal in South America and Asia.

The worst part about an "Always-Online" requirement is the possibility of someone (or a group of people) performing a DoS attack against the Xbox Live servers. A DoS attack could take the Xbox Live servers offline, screwing everyone who bought an Xbox 720.

I do think that something like this could happen, because there will be disgruntled gamers that want to make a statement to Microsoft that "Always-Online" is a bad thing.

After repeated DoS attacks against the Xbox Live servers, Microsoft may have to consider releasing a firmware update to remove the "Always-Online" requirement since the thing was a disaster.

@No_Intelligence A small number of retailers in Canada are starting to do their own Black Friday deals to counter the growing number of Canadians jumping the border to get Black Friday deals in the US. I don't know what Canadian retailers will have any of these deals.

And how is this even related to video games? Not one mention of video games showed up in this article.

@Jd1680a Well, there was internet in the 1990s, but very few people used the internet back then and there were very few websites on the internet.
