I personally want Black and White 2. I never got the chance to play it, and it looks amazing.

Good thing you didn't really either, it's far from great. While it was the sequel to an absolutely awesome game, much of what was in the original was taken out. No longer can you convert villages through wondrous miracles. You are either forced to make a big city, or to conquer that city. It's largely a city builder/empire building than it a god game anymore. If you want to play something truly unique, I would suggest the original Black and White, since it still remains far superior.

It's rather disappointing that Empire total war regardless of what system still have quite a few problems with it. The game still has quite a few performance issues. The grand campaign map performance gets atrocious later on in the game (AI taking incredibly long turns and FPS). Walled-town sieges will halt to a crawl whenever a section of the wall destroyed. Additionally some of the unwalled town maps have extremely low frame rates as well.

I heard Napoleon total war does not have these issues, but I haven't tried it for myself.

1 - Yes. No. Depends what games you're talking about. Games from before 2008? Yes. From after 2008? Nope.

2 - Yes

3 - All recent NVidia cards, starting with the GF8

It depends largely on the resolution and setting. The 9800gt is a capable card, but it will certainly have trouble with high resolutions and settings on more intensive games.

Wow, I guess I'm considering this too. To the above post, what does HSF stand for?

It's just a heatsink.

[QUOTE="ColdfireTrilogy"]Given AMDs (radeon's) extremely poor drivers and software suite I doubt it will make a huge difference. I love Nvidia ... why? Because the drivers freaking work! If I want to change AA and AF etc on a per game setting theres a simple menu for that in the Nvid drivers.... ATI? Crickets....or use a 3rd party tool -_- I loved my Radeon9800 pro in the early 2000s ... best card EVER ... Ill agree right now AMD has the better hardware overall ... but that doesnt mean jack if you slap on some bojankity software that makes it run like a sloth... I hope to see the game run fantastic on both cards but I just have trouble believing that; given that each new generation of AMD cards lately takes 6-7 months just to get the cards running as well as they should ....spank_thru101
First and foremost - to each his own. Your opinion is valid, but it is also somewhat of a common misconception. I have no clue if you have ever owned any ATI card but I have owned quite a few (9600, 9800, 4870, 4870x2, 4890) and all of them have been rather great cards and have had decent driver support. Furthermore ATI has made some great strides this past year with their 10.x line from all the benchies I have read. ATI does fail in the develop relations department which does ultimately hurt them in the driver side of things. They don't offer the free development tools and services which Nvidia does at great cost (TWIMTBP cost N team upwards of 100million a year). They also don't offer the man power to either travel or create a local hub from which their techs can work with the devs. The reason for this has always been valid and is due financial constraints. Though they are making changes (openCL) but those seem to be retroactive rather than proactive due to CUDA.

Kinda curious if you even read what I wrote ... I said i had a 9800 pro and its been my favorite card Ive ever owned period. Financial constraints? 0_0 ... ATI HAS BEEN OWNED BY AMD FOR YEARS ... #2 Processor vendor... if that isnt enough financial backing please ... Third, just as an add, ATI has terrible drivers for Linux ... TERRIBLE. The entire 2xxxHD series never even got 1 working driver lol. Only recently have any open source ATI drivers provided by ATI them self surfaced in the wild and they are quite crude at the moment.

I disagree with the financial backing (As they acquired a large amount of debt). I didn't have any problems with my 4890 in windows, but I do agree that their Linux drivers ARE HORRIBLE. My experience with them have not been pleasant.

Hey guys complete noob here, what are good programs to test my newly built pc? (GPU/CPU etc)

Meat_Wad_Fan

Core Temp or realtemp for the CPU and you could GPU-Z for the GPU temp, but most overclocking software comes with monitors, so you generally don't need one for your GPU if you overclock.

In terms of stress tests you can go with Prime95 or Linx for the CPU and Furmark for the GPU.

In terms of benchmarks, you can generally compare your performance with similar rigs with 3dmark06, 3dmark Vantage. Additionally there is the heaven tessellation benchmark.

You never really told us the size of the screen... In terms of a computer specs, the specs of the box could be beaten very easily for $800, and then spend $400 on a really nice IPS panel monitor. Just after a really quick search.... However, I would probably do more digging to find a better deal or build myself.

[QUOTE="Luminouslight"]

While the windows operating system has been undergoing continual updates against malware, there is much more development in creating the malware because more people use it. A large part of why Windows gets infected with malware is because it attempts to be as user friendly as possible. This makes it much easier for many users who do not know basic computer security to get infected. It also makes it easier because there are many more applications and services which can be exploited.

Linux can be run with a very rigid set of permissions, which make it more secure. Additionally, there are many distributions of Linux, some coming with almost nothing but the kernel and the user installs what he wants. The less there is that could be exploited, the more secure the machine is overall.

You can lighten windows too, i believe there was an app somewhere that would make a light iso from a real disk iso. You can also turn off services manually in windows.

In fact, I have already taken off many services from windows on my laptop and desktop. Unfortunately, many processes need to be continually run in the background in order for many applications to function (won't work on manual settings, which enables when in use).
