When i played Heavy Rain, it was kind of a new thing. However, adventure games and games without traditional genre hooks on consoles have exploded by now (perhaps in part because of Heavy Rain, but I suspect the overall success of smaller games has more to do with it) and I'm not quite as curious about Quantic Dream games anymore. It seems like other games such as Journey and Brothers are telling better stories, avoiding excessive violence, and generally making even bolder design decisions.
Quantic Dream games now feel less like the vanguard for new ideas and more like the rickety bones of old blockbusters.
Even beyond the install base, Nintendo still has to struggle with storage and DRM. Yeah, a lot of digital games don't take up a lot of space themselves, but saves, bigger games, and firmware updates are going to eat up that memory and make it more of a hassle to keep your game library at the ready.
Then digital rights are linked to hardware rather than an account, so buying a new console will eliminate all the games you payed for. Nintendo traditionally makes reliable consoles, but I don't like having my games in that kind of jeopardy. It seems like other platforms would be safer.
All this talk about antiheroes made me think of Hotline Miami. It's this crazy point of view of playing as an avatar in a game who is acting as an avatar himself and indulging in bloody fantasies for the greater good (as he thinks anyway).
It will also probably help that Destiny is avoiding the holiday season whereas Call of Duty will take its normal launch right as holiday shopping starts to pick up.
