Evolutionarily speaking, why do video games entertain us? Now that survival isn't really much of an issue in a good chunk of the world, do we simply seek some type of challenge inherently? Is it our mind's way of telling us that we should pursue the difficulties that lie ahead so we can come out on top?
As far as multiplayer games are concerned, I believe that it is simply a way of showing people who the alpha-male is. Maybe that's why females aren't into video games as much; males just like to measure **** size. As far as needless leveling systems in online games, trophies, achievements, and what have you, I think it is a way to flex superiority over others. Everyone wants to feel superior in some way; that's why they still air shows like "Sweet 16," so people can go, "Heh, she's so spoiled! I'm better than her because I'm appreciate of what I have, even if it is less!"
So why do you think video games entertain homo sapiens, specifically the testerone-fueled half? Why do they entertain some more than others? Why are males typically more interested in them than females? Do you think the few females that actually like them coincidentally look like ****s, or is it simply because they can't find any self-worth in themselves?
