I like your analysis on this. I agree they have enough money to tough it out this generation. I hope that next gen they go with a console that can keep up with the specs of Sony and Microsoft and that they aggressively try and get back into the mainstream again. I have a Wii U, I love it and it has great games on it. I also have a PS4 and an Xbox One (I love collecting consoles what can I say) and I can honestly say you need to *want* to play Nintendo games to want a Wii U. It's a great system but coming out with sub-par hardware specs has been slowly taking its toll on Nintendo in my opinion.
All I can say is that nothing last forever. Not your house, not your body, not your games, and not the sun. With that in mind I enjoy EVERY video game I can as much as I can and want too before it eventually stops working or my access is terminated. The truth is we're renting everything, our time on this earth, our cars, our homes, our families. That may sound grim but when old things go new things arrive so I wouldn't take it in a negative light.
I agree (and this coming from an Xbox One owner), Kinect does nothing really great for gaming and I don't expect it to do anything great for gaming. However Kinect has many great uses as you pointed out in this video... just not for gaming.
I love my Wii U. Nintendo has gotten a large amount of my money over the last year or so what with Wii U and 3DS. I think they'll be fine but I do get why it is that this topic is so popular, it brings in a lot of web traffic. PS3 started out super slow when it launched and by the end of the last generation it had sold more then Xbox 360 (I got that info by wiking both systems to see the total number of sales). The start of a race doesn't always determine the end.
I got an Xbox One, I love it and 'am happy with it. However I always planned on getting both systems first. As a game collector in general I just love owning all and having no boundaries.
