So I upgrade my OS to 64 bit, I go to Best Buy or Tiger Direct and get a "Beefier", high-end Graphics Card, then what? Am I done? Can I just download and play and record Bioshock Infinite on Ultra settings with high FPS? Or is there another step I need to follow? Also, the Local Disk Space. Is that the same thing as the Hard Drive, and if so should I buy a bigger internal or external Hard Drive if I plan on downloading and recording a lot of games? I want to do let's plays, and right now I'm doing it all on my laptop. I'm trying to do low-end games like Half-Life and Minecraft until I can get my desktop "fixed". I plan on going into Deus Ex, Battlefield 4, and Tomb Raider when I do. So, if I 1. Upgrade to 64-bit 2. Get a better Graphics card 3. ??? 4. Get a bigger HDD Will I be able to play those games?PixelDuh

Yep.  Local Disk Space is the totality of what you have in hard drives.

Don't forget to check what power supply you have (brand and wattage) since a card like the ones I mentioned would need a supply with at least 500 watt, preferably around 600 to stay on the safe side (in case you want to add other stuff).

Once you've got those (and a bigger hard drive --look at 2TB drives, they're cheaper when looking at bang per megabyte) you're indeed all set to go...

but that doesnt make sense, wait for AMD to released its HD 8000 series, dont compare new to old gen

ClassicRockFTW

Am I being trolled ? The GTX 700 series was a re-fresh (it wasn't a new generation). The GTX 770 was a re-badged 680, the GTX 760 was basically a 670 with less cores and the 780 is basically a cut down (the 700 wasn't a new generation).

Both the 600 and 700 series are Kepler (there is no new technology)

so you're admitting that nvidia brought nothing new to the table and merely rebadged old graphics card to boost sales?

oh wow thats some profiteering right there

This and your opening post prove that you're just here for stoking-up some fires.  Get lost.  Vade retro, intricavi.

I have an ATI Radeon HD 3400 Series apparently. I don't know what that means. Here's some other stuff: Chip type: ATI display adapter (0x95C5) DAC Type: Internal DAC(400MHz) That's all I know about the Graphics card side of things, I suppose that's what you wanted. I'll try to upgrade my operating system to 64-bit, thanks on that part. *Edit* The system model of the desktop is a Dell OptiPlex 980.PixelDuh

That ATI Radeon HD 3400 is just enough to show your desktop and Aero.  It's a (very) low-end video card and that's why you play hefty games slideshow-wise...

You should upgrade to a 64-bits operating system, check what power supply you have to see if that supply can handle a beefier GPU which needs one or two PCIe power plugs...

The i7 860 is a first generation socket 1156 CPU.  I had one and it's not bad at all.  Sandy- and Ivy Bridge CPUs perform better,  but a system with an i7 860 coupled to a sturdy video card like an NVidia GTX670/760 or AMD 7870/7950 will make yer jaw drop when you'd play games on it.

Opinion on something guys...I have been getting blue screens even after a clean windows install and a new HDD.

This time my Asus Xinar D1 quit working untill I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers. Got me thinking that maybe my sound card was the reason for all the BSOD.

What do you guys think?

Also I'm considering a new sound card....Creative decent?

BSC14

A lot depends on what you got hooked to that soundcard.  If it's cheapish speakers, don't bother and use the mobo's chip.  If you've got a fairly decent 5.1/7.1 you could go for a soundcard, but only when opting for the high-end specimen.  If you want to get a low-end card, again, don't bother.

Best choises are Asus (Xonar Essence STX) or the new "Z" series from Creative (Soundblaster ZXR) which have very decent drivers.  Should you use high-spec speakers, go for an external DAC or amp.

When having a video card with HDMI, use that instead of a soundcard...

Don't worry. Like you said, you've got 30 days to return it if you find a problem. But what model laptop did you get? superclocked

Some high-end Sony Vaio... it's in a second topic around here by Bad-School-Girl.

*EDIT*

Here it is.

Because the drivers are teh suxx.

Or something.

Postmortem123

Bollox.  Everytime AMD is mentioned someone pops up with a "bad drivers" comment.  I've had as many NVidia cards as ATI/AMD ones and swam through murky drivers with both brands.

Ever since the Skyrim crossfire debacle, I haven't had any AMD driver problems at all... while I *still* have the odd driver (320.49) failure on my second machine which has an MSI GTX460 HAWK.

[QUOTE="C_Rule"] Well that's where you've gone wrong.pawq4

Care to elaborate on why I'm wrong using LED TVs as computer screens?

Input lag mostly.

I don't know the numbers on my Samsung Series 6000 37" and 40" Smart TVs which I use right now, but visually I can't see any signs of lag...

[QUOTE="AMD655"]

[QUOTE="Alienware_fan"]But that card couldnt max it out gtz 4 at launch.

Alienware_fan

GTX 580 came out a long time after the game did.

Here, GTX 480 raping GTA IV with some extreme mods, downsampled (SSAA)

He probably didnt even max out all the graphics option and its running at 21-30 fps.

Quit the booze and get rid of those Grey Alien goggles so you can actually see what's written on the screen.

I dont have those issues, or you could say I dont notice them. Dont believe me? Ask someone else.

Alienware_fan

What in gods name are you talking about now ? I made a comment a few days ago saying that crossfire was having some driver issues and that performance was hit or miss untill they fix the drivers (some people have issues while others don't). You told me that these issues didn't exist and blew them off (you questioned the issues and then said that you couldn't believe that people actually believe that crap).

I called out you on being a hypocrite (your acknowledging an issue that according to you doesn't exist and is just a pure crap statement) and now your making some response that has nothing to do with anything (your somehow assuming that my statement was directed at your performance which was NOT ONCE even remotely stated in any of my post.......).

So basically your a hypocrite and now your arguing that you don't have the driver issues yourself which was NEVER in question or even in the dicussion....... (I fail to see what your getting at).

Show me a game where performance is a hit or miss with crossfire.

You should have tried Skyrim when that was released.  I had my character swimming in thin air when venturing inside caves which had a touch of mist in them.  Crossfired two 6970ies at the time and had to disconnect one to be able to play Skyrim in a more or less reasonable fashion.  It took AMD MONTHS before they released a fix...
