@--CryptOrchid-- @undeadgoon @JediLegacy For people who want to play PC games with a controller. I'm a Key+Mouse guy too, but many of my friends who play aren't. Analog doesn't give as good of feedback as touchpad, trackball is difficult to use, so this controller is for those people who want to be able to play any PC game with a controller, not just the select few that analog accomodates (as well as the developers not adding controller support, which this controller will attempt to emulate).

@RicanV @b74kd3th "The Steam Controller is built around a new generation of super-precise haptic feedback, employing dual linear resonant actuators. These small, strong, weighted electro-magnets are attached to each of the dual trackpads. They are capable of delivering a wide range of force and vibration, allowing precise control over frequency, amplitude, and direction of movement...As a parlour trick they can even play audio waveforms and function as speakers."

They play music, apparently.

I can see most of the people who hate this controller are people who haven't tried playing PC games with a controller.

Dualshocks work great for FPS and adventure games, platformers and racing, etc. But try a sim game. Or a 4x strategy. This controller was made for all PC games and to be able to hook up to any PC game from wherever possible. There's a reason they're touch-screen haptic, not analog: try precision-clicking a group of units with analog.

Of course, if you hate the controller you can still use any kind of input you like for SteamOS. In other words, STFU and plug in your dualshocks, by all means. Can't wait to wipe the floor with you in Rome II: Total War.

@RicanV Actually haptic feedback allows them to function as speakers.

Yeah....nice try at the sarcasm meter though.

The SteamBox could be a lucrative concept if Valve is able to make a dedicated gaming PC: that is, a PC with a limited OS that could run minimal numbers so that the hardware would not have to be strained so hard and parts could be cheaper, bringing the price down immensely.

Basically, if Valve can create a dedicated gaming PC for around $500-600 that is made for only gaming they have themselves a winner in both the PC and console market. Why play a console game when you could have the modding support, the graphical capability, the keyboard integration, and the versatility of the Steam Store all in one machine for the price of a console?

"Yeah, I lost a lot of sleep over that one."

Jeez, releasing ACIII must have given you permanent insomnia then.

How do you multiplayer in Ryse? Two people mashing QTE's in a pre-rendered cinematic brawl?

Basically like DDR.
