Right, so the guy who is the narrator in Bastion and the sword in Transistor (Logan Cunningham, brilliant btw) is black but the characters he plays are white (okay, one's a sword but before he was a sword it looks like he was a white guy) but that never sparked any controversy. So my question is - when does this become offensive? Is it okay for black actors to voice white characters but not the other way round? Is it only okay if the game is stylised or cartoonish and not realistic? I'm so confused as to when i'm supposed to be outraged.
This is a brilliantly written article that demonstrates some old-school journalistic skills that appear to be so lacking in games journalism (though the same could be said of many sectors). Tracking down these ex-Microsoft employees and taking the time to interview them is commendable in a time where the demand for a constant stream of on-site and easily social medialised (?) content often steps in the way of quality. Say what you will about whether one console did better than another, but I genuinely felt I learned something through reading this article and ultimately I enjoyed reading it. Good job, Rob .
Such an unfair comparison - Destiny well over a year after launch and Halo 5 less than 24 hours after release. I don't play either game, but seems like Halo 5's getting the raw end of the deal here. Who knows what will change in Halo in the next year?
@dragon_masterex Would be an interesting juxtaposition, but sadly I reckon there wouldn't be enough coherent, reasonable comments at any given time to make it a reality. Not to say there aren't a great number of smart, respectful Gamespot community members, but they're greatly outnumbered by dickheads. Seem to remember IGN having to have a community crackdown a few months ago, maybe the rats jumped onto the Gamespot ship.
Do we really want a virtual world that's 100% immersive? How will we be able to differentiate the real from the unreal? If it's real to all our senses what's to say that's not a reality in and of itself? Or something similarly inception-esque.
I feel so terrible that my puny mind can't deal with turn-based strategy games. I'm really missing out but I just can't get to grips with them. I have Civ V (no expansions) and have never been able to get my head round how it all works. As a recent PC convert I'm ashamed. Is there something wrong with me?
CD Projekt Red has been doing this for years and I massively respect them for it. They've come from a completely unknown studio to one whose public approval arguably rivals Valve. Now let's hope that they can turn this approval into massive profit like Valve, all the while not losing that fundamental consumer-focused ethic.
