Now that the cat is out of the bag I wonder how many people who don't have a PS4 will wait to buy it. Once the NEO comes out the price of the original PS4 is likely going to be lowered, so why pay full price now? I have a feeling the sales figures on the PS4 over the next two to three quarters are going to be pretty rough for Sony...

@dyshonest: I take your statements on "fossils" and "ancient hardware" as hyperbole also, because I don't know many machines like PS4 that use DDR5 memory. At the time it was not ancient, and it certainly isn't ancient now.

Also I used the present perfect tense to refer to the life of the PS3, but that's besides the point. If you don't know that some of the older generation consoles were around for about 10 years then you need to brush up on gaming console history.

I like your passionate argument to support your opinion, but you are as entitled to yours as I am to mine. Judging from the other comments around here a lot of other people are not happy either, so you might have a hard time to convince everyone.

@dyshonest: We can start treating consoles like computers, sure, maybe even like cell phones. Let's have upgrades every year. If people are willing to shell out $400 for a new cell phone every 12 months, why not a new console? It's the trend anyway, and I'm sure they can get enough hype going, right?

Xbox 360 is still up and running, the original Xbox lasted a good 8-9 years, and PS3 has had a long, long life also. Consoles used to last about 10 years. Why should the new generation be any different?

Why not just give developers a chance to see what they can do with the new hardware before making new iterations of them? So far we have seen a bunch of remastered games, and a few attempts at current-generation games, but it takes much longer to tap the power of these systems. Just give them a change and let them try...

@kyelo: Would you prefer "divide, distance, isolate, cut off; turn away, drive apart, marginalize, disunite, drive a wedge between" rather than alienate? Those would work too...

@dyshonest: I was just stating they would be taking a big risk to develop and market something that may or may not be successful. If they can do it great. If not then it sucks to be one of the millions current owners who can't afford it, and knowing the console you purchased was obsoleted this early in its life cycle.

I find it hard to believe that Sony would not allow existing consoles to be upgraded and to alienate the millions of units already sold for a niche market in 4K and VR, which may or may not be successful. If they make a new console they have to convince their current customer base to buy a new $400 box and a new $400 VR headset, and maybe a $650-$1000 4K TV to enjoy it on (if they don't already own one.) And if Microsoft does the same thing with the Xbox One, developers will be forced to make games for 4 consoles instead of 2. I really hope they can make this work for everyone...

@Hurvl: You shouldn't let any adults play with it either, because you'll get a headline in the New York Times that reads "The Witcher 3: Wild Nut" about an insane lunatic who went on a killing spree, butchering innocent people with a sword replica based on a video game weapon. Just look at the guy with the machete in Bryant Park. Unless they carefully screen all contestants with background checks, this is a bad idea...

@dre3800 Is there even any multiplayer in the 360 version of the game? If I go to Games on Demand it says "Multiplayer: None". How about a proper review for Xbox 360 Gamespot? There's millions of 360 owners out there, and some of us are waiting to make a decision about getting the game!
