Beeda Weeda feat Ya Boy & E-40, "So High"

Man, 40 came with a tight verse on here but Beeda just annihilated it.  Beeda is definitely on of my top 3 in the game these days.  Caint wait for Turfology 102.

Nice to see a post on Chris Da Vth.  A shame his "Tonight Show" record was kinda just random crap thrown together, because his guest spots absolutely KILL it.  He should really be the one getting the love Young Gully has gotten ... dude can spit like crazy.  His verse on Stalin & Maybach's "Fast Life" is still my favorite.

Anyways, nice thread; a shame I've been too busy to really contribute to it since I wanted to do a thread like this for years on GS but never really had enough bay area fans to really warrant creating one.

My only really problem with the thread would be the artists you're choosing to spotlight ... the problem in featuring up-and-comers from the bay area is two-fold:  one, most people here don't even know the legends from the bay, and as far as quality goes, there really is no comparing Too $hort, San Quinn, RBL Posse, etc. to some of the clowns in this post.  Second, some of these guys just plain suck.  I guess the point that I'm getting at is that people should hear 3xKrazy before they hear Roach Gigz ... but better yet, they should (be so lucky as to) never hear Roach Gigz.  If I was new to bay area rap, most of the stuff in this thread wouldn't really get me interested.  I respect the effort put into this thread, but some of these guys just suck. Almost exclusively the only people in the bay putting out quality music this year are people who have been doing it for years.

I guess I'm also traditional too in the sense that I don't take a rapper very seriously if he doesn't put out an album.  Hell, the only mixtapes I consider worth a crap have all incidentally been also released hard copy.  I think you should wait on posting about a few of these guys until they actually have a body of work under their belt.

Dunno if I'd still it enjoy it so much these days, or if I even still have the record, but I liked these guys back in the day.

This is in my Rapbay.com cart right now (which currently has 25 items at over $200 lol).  Looking forward to hearing this, though I wish they'd stop putting that "Urban Tactics" song on all the new DJ Fresh projects.  It's just not very good.

Also agreed about the Philthy Rich record ... I've become a massive Philthy Rich mark in the last year, and I know he is capable of a great record ... this still probably isn't it, but it's way closer than I'd ever imagined he'd get.

seriously anything in the past 2 months come out thats worth checking out besides section 80 and westside with love II(already got those)

or any new artist worth checking out or anything

im bored of my music

Ryder004

Seriously, I don't think there has been a major-label rap album released in at least the past three (maybe four) weeks.

It really is sad to see rap dying like this ... the "hip-hop is dead" argument was always stupid from a qualitative standpoint, but when it becomes quantitative like this, there really is no arguing it.  Even on the indie level, things done dried up.  Isn't this the summertime?  Besides the holidays, this is supposed to be the busiest time of the year for releases.

Granted, this might be a blessing in disguise as I really shouldn't be spending tons of money on new releases anyways, and besides, there will always be a huge backlog of old releases I still need to get around to checking out, but it just sucks not really having ANYTHING on the horizon.

(Note:  this isn't to say there aren't any albums I'm looking forward to.  It's just, at this rate, I'll believe them when they actually get released.)

Yeah it's crazy Frank Ocean is gonna be on this. I wonder if Yeezy will ever work with Tyler since Kanye is a big fan...Either way OFWGKTA is comin' up fast. Toriko42

lol OF is signed to Sony and Jay-Z is signed to Sony; it ain't rocket science.

It's no different than Universal putting Drake and Big KRIT on the last two Pimp C albums ... it's not happening so that we can be treated to some exciting collaborations, it's just being done because (in this case) some exec thinks that there's money to be made off of Frank Ocean.

It's a shame I've had basically no time to get on here, because 2011 has been a great year so far for music and there's been a ton I've been wanting to talk about. For now, a brief top 5 will have to suffice:

(in order, from best to worst)

Top 5 Albums of 2011 (so far):

1. San Quinn & Loyal-T (guest starring Mike Marshall), "Never Say Die"
2. J Stalin, "The Real World 3" (was released on cd in 2011, so it's a 2011 release as far as I'm concerned)
3. Philthy Rich, "Trippin' 4 Life"
4. Various Artists, "DLK Enterprise Presents: Hood Files Compilation"
5. J Stalin, Hell Rell, Lord Geez, "Guilty By Affiliation"

Honorable Mention: Keak Da Sneak, "Sneakacydal Returns" - cut a few tracks off and you'd have an amazing EP.

Hopefully I'll be able to make up a mix of some of the year's best tracks soon. And with 40's new albums dropping Tuesday, you already know there's about to be a lot more great music.

I don't feel an ounce of hyperbole in saying that these two albums are the most important rap releases this year (the new Jacka/Freeway collabo and new Webbie album come closest, but this kinda has an unfair advantage when it comes to quantity). It's that balance of independent creativity and the kind of budget and focus that come with a major label that's so rare today ... can't wait. Both albums drop next Tuesday.

"Overtime Shift:

01. Mr. Flamboyant 2K11
02. Drugs f. B-Legit
03. Hillside
04. Gunz
05. Slow It Down f. J Stalin & Decadez
06. Me & My *****
07. Beastin
08. My Money Straight f. Guce & Black C
09. I Love My Momma f. R.O.D. & Mic Conn
10. I Am Your f. Droop-E & Laroo
11. In The Morning f. Beeda Weeda & Work Dirty
12. Punkin' Em Out
13. Born In The Struggle f. Dr. Cornell West & Mike Marshall
14. **** Em'
15. Rear View Mirror f. B-Legit & Stress
16. Lookin' Back f. Devin The Dude
17. Stay Gone
18. Movin' Organized Business
19. Tired Of Sellin Yola
20. Click About It f. The Click, Harm, & Bosko

"Graveyard Shift":

01. Barbarian
02. Serious f. T-Pain
03. Graveyard Shift f. Cousin Fik & Choose Up Cheese
04. My Lil Grimey *****
05. Yankin' f. Hot & Laroo
06. Concrete
07. Club On Lock f. Matt Blaque & Laroo
08. Fried f. Tech N9ne & Marty James
09. Back & Forth f. Turf Talk, Cousin Fik & Stress
10. Bad **** f. Stress & Droop-E
11. Takin 'Em Back
12. My **** Bang
13. The Streets Don't Love Nobody f. Turf Talk & DB Tha General
14. 43 f. B-Legit
15. That Candy Paint f. Bun B & Slim Thug
16. E Forty
17. Trapped f. Mike Marshall
18. Spooky f. Bosko
19. Don't Try This At Home f. Philthy Rich & Stevie Joe
20. Tuff Times f. Bosko & Netta B

---

In all honesty, those two albums 40 dropped last year were probably the worst releases of his career. People can call it a return to mobb music all they want, but I can't see those records as much more than 2005-era hyphy leftovers. Mike Mosely and Studio Ton were never releasing tracks that were just distorted drum loop and a repetitive synth stab over and over. Droop-E was capable of better, but 40 should really be working with better producers, period. That said, it was also the most by-the-book 40 has ever been lyrically. You can say it's better than his Warner Brothers releases ... but ... go back and listen to them. They're actually pretty tight.

That said, 40 looks to have it right this time around. Whereas he seemed to be working backwards in time on the last album, replete with cameos from tons of people who haven't been relevant to the bay for years (Clyde Carson, Dem Hoodstarz, Mistah Fab, etc.), this time around he seems to have his finger on the pulse of what's hot in the bay - everyone from Stalin to Philthy Rich to DB Tha General (!) to Matt Blaque to Jacka is on this record. Plus there's cameos for the long time fans ... sooooooooooo happy to see Bosko all over this. There's even a track with Bosko and Harm on the same track! He put Guce and Black C on a track! Marty James is on a hook!

It'll be really interesting to hear how 40 can hold up against some of the younger blood in the bay ... in particular I'm interested in hearing how he holds up against Beeda Weeda - imo the best rapper in the bay today, a cat that has already out-shined him on a few tracks and, considering this is the most important verse of his life to date - man, I can't even wait to hear how sick this is gonna be.

I'll reserve further judgement until this comes out, but I can't give 40 enough applause for doing the right thing in an era where nobody seems to care about making good music anymore.
