@EdibleFood The Screen resolution is sort of besides the point. You cant make a comparison of systems AT ALL! Having owned both the Original Ds and Psp I see the types of games on these systems and they are night and day you cant just broadbrush across the handhelds and say stuff like "Vita has a better screen and 3ds should have 1 hd screen". Whoever says this it TOTALLY missing the point of the systems target base. Nintendo often aims to make their systems affordable. Sure they could make the most advanced tech, but if its out of reach of their target audience,noone would be able to play their games. Sony seems to be going for those people who like to play console style games on the go.In that instance the Hd and graphics would be more relevant and necessary. Also Nintendo tries to push for a different gameplay style with their systems with the touchscreen and didnt just put a touchscreen for the sake of putting one.So youll have missed the idea entirely to say it should only have 1 screen.
Again the writers and editors don't get it. It almost sounds like they feel that they can make a better handheld than Nintendo. 2 Screens open up the gameplay and cinematic possibilities up alot more than 1. Ie: Final Fantasy or any rpg for that matter to have interface touch options on 1 screen(completely out of the way of your viewing mind you so your focus can be on the top screen...which to me is smart),while having gameplay, cinematics on the top screen. What about those times when theres huge scenes taking place in a game where both screens are needed to capture whats going on. I feel that the writer of this article just hasnt taken into account the need to push gameplay potential past whats safe....thats what I loved about the Original Nintendo Ds system. 3ds and Vita are made for 2 different types of player to compare them is iditotic to me.
@febreez123 They wont do it that way it will compete with their own game playing phone the Xperia play. Sony isnt going to cut their own throats...This is also a reason you probably wont see a Microsoft portable because they dont want to step on the toes of their windows phone users
Why do they Try and compare cellphone games to handhelds when they dont even have the same type of game libraries? Unless there was more than 2 games on ios(infinity blade 1 and 2 lol) that were more of a core experience. I could then agree but the problem is that even when the same game companies that make games on handhelds make ios or android games they just make little throw away games. Its just like the people who compare the ipad to other tablets, you just CANT compare them unless you could realistically do the same things. I have an Iphone but bought a 3ds anyway and I plan to buy a Vita once more games are out because just like on the different consoles for the most part I get a different gaming experience and not to wave some sort of "Hardcore gamer" flag. This sort of thing Id think Gaming editors would catch right off the bat....
Hey Ive accepted that premature bash articles like this one are just what gamespot does....they did it with the 3ds and they are even doing it now with the WiiU when nothing really solid has been revealed on it.
@bakagami Im normally a person who jumps on website reviewers and editors when I feel they get the information wrong but I feel in this case this guy is just stating his impression and his opinion on the subject. I happen to agree with some of it in the sense that the handheld game makers like Nintendo or Sony need to step back and take a look at their actual market competitors. They arent competing with just consoles anymore. The game companies need to add more incentive to buy a 200 to 300+ dollar handheld other than games we've played already on a console or games we've played last gen. Even if they dont add increased functionality like apps or whatever at least learn from the last gen basic functionality problems like the psp's crappy ui. Im sort of shocked to hear that they didnt fix that in the Ps Vita. Based on what this guy is saying they seem to have made it worse. Then theres the question of games. When 3ds came out the couple of good games it had were good but its taking until now for the good games to come out and the first wave of crapware to die down. Im waiting for that period to happen with the Ps Vita before I jump in and buy one.
@zskrabs24 you can only do but so much in a software based update. The hardware based problems like not being able to charge it with usb like most devices like you can with the iphone is a valid complaint. Also I own all of Sonys systems and they havent been famous for good UI on their system navigation.....
Dude it comes down to this...The types of games on mobile devices arent the types of games that hardcore gamers play. maybe 1 or 2 but for the most part I doubt Sony and Nintendo is Quaking in their shoes over Angry birds HD......so no the ios and android market is no threat in that regard at all.
