It only affects ants, but forces them to climb to a high place, and commit suicide and spread the fungus. In the last of us, this fungus has been caught by humans, and the way it affects the human body, is by having that mushroom type thing on the faces of clickers. It grows out of their eyes. Runners are in a very basic stage of infection, the fungus has yet to come out of their eyes, so its glossy and red.
