I would be lying if I said I don't pay attention to reviews. I actually do read reviews to give me a general idea of what a video game is like before I buy it, but I have played plenty of games that have recieved low reviews that I found myself enjoying a lot. I've also played games with high reviews that I found myself being disappointed in, like Oblivion and Fallout 3. I guess reviews are good to give you a general idea idea of what a game is like before you play it but nobody should ever take the scores of games seriously, because they're always biased.

[QUOTE="GreySun369"]

I've always been a fan of Survival Horror video games, I mean I've played everything from the Resident Evil series to the Silent Hill series to the Fatal Frame series (plus many more such as Siren and Haunting Ground). I used to really enjoy the Silent Hill series until Silent Hill Homecoming came out, and after that I just kind of lost interest in the series because it seemed like every new game that came out was crap. When Silent Hill Downpour came out I pretty much ignored all of the news about it because I figured it would be another crappy game like Homecoming was, but my friend asked me if I wanted his copy of Silent Hill Downpour and since the only true horror game I owned for the PS3 was my imported copy of Siren Blood Curse I figured I'd take him up on his offer on the off chance that Downpour might actually be a decent horror game.

I've been playing this game for days now and I'm actually happy with how this game turned out. It doesn't feel quite the same as the classic Silent Hill games, but it actually feels scary. It's like it's own type of unique horror game which I think is a good thing. The environments are unsettling and the monsters are pretty disturbing, plus the story and the characters all feel like they were well-written. I actually found myself feeling nervous about entering certain rooms or having to fight some of the monsters. Of course the gameplay takes a little getting used to at first, I can't tell you how many times I've lost a good weapon because I accidentally threw it. But it's not so bad once you get used to the controls.

Anyways for anyone who actually likes scary stuff I highly recommend this game. :)

I am yet to pick it up. I actually enjoyed Homecoming a bit. So i am curious as to how Downpour would turn out to be.

Personally I think Downpour is a lot better than Homecoming, although I admit that the combat is a little harder. Weapons in the game are all breakable and there's very few guns and ammo scattered around.

You know, I've looked around to see if there are any other classic game collections for the PS3 like the Ultimate Genesis Collection and I haven't seen any. The only "collections" they have are for PS2 games like Tomb Raider and Sly Cooper. That's really kind of sad, I hope maybe in the future we will get other retro game collections for the PS3. I know the PSP had some with classic Capcom and Namco games.

Also the only game I really miss that's not on Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection is The Revenge of Shinobi. That was probably my favorite game on the Six Pack for the Sega Genesis and it's too bad that it's not on the collection. :(

Personally I think some of the Western games that have become so popular recently are a bit overrated, especially anything that comes from Bethesda with their glitchy buggy messes they call The Elder Scrolls and Fallout. I'm not one of those obsessed Japanophiles who thinks Japan is some sort of perfect utopia of anime and video games that we lowly Americans should worship as the new Jesus, but the truth is I just perfer Japanese-made games over American and European ones. However recently I've started playing more Western games such as Uncharted and Tomb Raider and they actually are really fun and well-made games with little bugs or graphical issues. I guess when you get down to it I can go either way just as long as the video games appeals to me.

Yeah but at the same time I think newer games don't have quite the same addictiveness that the older games had. I think the fact that the retro 2D side scrollers were so hard is partly what made them so addictive, you kept playing them over and over until you got good enough to beat the game and then you kept replaying to see if you could beat your old score. Newer games don't really have that, but what they do have is longer gameplay and more bonus features to unlock for beating the games. But the thing with new games is that once I beat them I loose interest in them for awhile until a couple of months later when I replay them just for the nostalgia. It's really just not as fun as the first time you play the game, but the classic games I can replay over and over and never get bored.

Yeah about a week ago I was at the mall and saw Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for PS3 and decided to buy it because I used to own a Sega Genesis when I was a little kid. I thought the 2D retro games would be a breeze because I had played some of them before but I was suprised to find that they are a lot harder than I remember, even when playing the games on easy level. I mean don't get me wrong it's still great being able to play the classics again such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Streets of Rage, and Golden Axe, but I think I've been spoiled by modern video games which frankly I feel are too easy to play.

Anyone else feel this way too?
