Anyone who can be arsed to do a search of my posts will see my predictions of the free to play date. I was completely wrong though, I said 6 to 12 months, even I wasnt that cynical.

Whoever started "Ragnar Tournquist resign!" Your 5 years too late, shareholders must be leading a torch mob to his place about now Id say lol :D

Whoever started "what a shame" thats exactly what I was going to say next. If the game even lived up to the damn box art let alone the genre and the possibility of the universe... FFS I just dont understand how you can balls it up so bad.

Whoever started "Matrix Online anyone ?" yeah my thoughts exactly. A bunch of devs led by Ragnar, sucking down whatever drugs it is devs take to make them think they know better than the hundreds of fans and beta players begging them not to make the changes they make. The MxO combat system was a work of genius in the minds of about 5 people and a steaming pile of doodoo to basically everyone else. Go figure... The unf*ckable franchise gets totally f*cked.

Im very dissapointed, I basically said TSW was gonna be my last MMO if it sucked and I think it may be true now after starting MMOS with Meridian 59 and UO... :( Not happy Jan... or Ragnar

I preordered. Got up at 0400 to go to work this morning and thought I would look in and see if it was available to start the download before I went to work. Nothing, nada... has it released on Steam in Oz yet ?

[QUOTE="Moegitto"]

You forgot about the cash shop, you start with crap options but you can buy better items there.

JFFHawke

Ok so your telling us that, not only do you buy the game, pay a monthly subscription, you also have to purchace items from a cash shop?  Are you friggin kidding me?

WTF is wrong with Funcom?... The company is just Trash, PERIOD.

It wouldn't be a problem, but honestly with games like CHampions Online, a benchmark of customization.  You got pretty much everything out the gate.  And then if you wanted the "vanity" crap you could pay extra.  It sounds to me that Funcom made the game so generic as to force its players to rely on the cash shop.

Spot on. Its a small group within Funcom that despite their litany of failure in MMOs still believe they know whats best for everyone including you. When this tanks in 6-12 months time, they will blame factors beyond their controlfor the fail.

Well now having had what I would call a fair introduction to TSW (aproximately 15 hours over the 2 weekends), I am pretty much standing by my original comments.

The combat is simplistic to the point that if it was not an online game, you would be basically disgusted with it as a 3rd person RPG. The actions of the guns and the graphics associated with shooting are just infantile and do not in anyway serve to make you feel like your weilding a powerful shotgun or assault rifle, let alone one imbued with mystic power. The mystic powers themselves are unimaginative and are basically just the usal series of wooshy blue and orange clouds of light with dull effects both visually and in their physical effect on enemies and the environment.

More time has been spent applying the concept of a secret code to the game mechanics than it has to the storyline.

On the left normal MMO terms, on the right TSW "revolutionary" equivalents.

  • Buffs=States
  • Debuffs=States
  • Skill trainer=Liason
  • Levels=Your skill points
  • Powers=Your skill points (so actually we have less MMO elements not more)
  • Actives=Active Skills (they must have run out of alternate words by this time)
  • Passives=Passive Skills (more revolutionary ideas)
  • Exploiting States=Wait till your team members buff or debuff before attacking... wow never seen that before either NOT

I guess if Im sounding like I dont like this game, its because basically after spending 10 years listening to Funcom Devs talk about how they are setting the world on fire when they havnt done anything half imaginative since AO, is just getting on my nerves.

The simple fact is this is a great IP with a ton of potential. The environments are perhaps the one thing I will give them as being good. The attention to detail in the world is high and the graphic style fits the genre well. But like AO that is not enough to save exceptionally average gameplay and an almost complete lack of any feeling of purpose or attachment to the universe.

If you found Matrix Online difficult to immerse yourself in when you find yourself "secretly" running around with 300 other stocatically moving noobs chasing the same 3 rats up a drainpipe like secret societys are nothing more than timeless pest control operators with similar clothing then rejoice, this is your game.
