Which is better & was ahead of its time?

LOL i cannot take this serious.

A dreamcast game where he is running around asking "did you see chinese peeople" and look at some cat/dog and say "oh now its also a orphan" but i know many consider this to be a great game but compared to The Last of us its like comparing the sun to the moon and saying oh both is hot.

The question is essentially "which game was more ahead of its time?" So we can definitely compare them because we're not comparing the games with today's standards.

I think Shenmue was more ahead of its time. It had a large world with so much stuff to do, a lot of other games (even today) didn't have as much as Shenmue did. You can interact with just about anything in the environment and it doesn't need to be relevant to the main plot. The world isn't only big because of its size, but because of how there's so much to do. And the graphics were really good for the Dreamcast.

Shenmue did a lot to break the mold. The Last of Us doesn't really do much to break the mold, it just looks pretty. The graphics in the Last of Us are REALLY good for the PS3, I didn't think it needed a remastered edition on the PS4. It practically looked like a PS4 game already.

I mostly play games on my PS3 or PS2. I haven't seen a need to get a PS4 or WiiU yet. PS4 doesn't have anything interesting, and Xenoblade X isn't out yet. (I also don't think Xenoblade X alone is enough to get me to buy a WiiU though.)

As for the Xbone. Well Dead Rising 3 is available for PC. Hopefully they'll do the same for Sunset Overdrive cuz that game looks cool. It goes without saying that I wouldn't buy an Xbone no matter what. (Worse with Kinect.)

My PC I sometimes use to play World of Warcraft and Minecraft. I've got such a large library of Steam games though...But I don't really like playing any of them anymore for some reason. I used to play Killing Floor and TF2 a lot, but for some reason those games have lost their charm. I'd rather play Ni No Kuni, or Eternal Sonata on my consoles.

Tales of Eternia for the PS1 (Known as Tales of Destiny II in the states). I'm so lucky to have found it at a local retro games store.

It has become my second favorite Tales game. (My favorite being Tales of the Abyss still)

The story is pretty good, and I like the characters. But what makes this game stand out is how unpredictable it can be. I really like the mini-games which most other Tales games don't have. (At least not as much as Tales of Eternia does.) The puzzles are fun too. The game is really well designed, I'm surprised it flew under the radar.

Now I just need to get Tales of Destiny and I'll have all the Tales of games that were localized. I really wish I knew how great these games were back when they were initially released. I wouldn't have to pay $70 - $80 for them! lol

Metal Gear Solid does have an amazing storyline I must agree. MGS2 is my favorite installment because of how the story is told through Raiden's eyes. He's kept out of the loop when talking with Rose, Colonel Campbell, and Snake. It gave me motivation to keep playing because I wanted to piece everything together and figure out just what's going on. Raiden became one of my favorite video game characters.

The story of Final Fantasy VII is also really good. Crisis Core was amazing and the ending made me tear up.

Tales of the Abyss has a really great story with some excellent character development. It's a pretty dark game. (At least for a Tales game.)

Sorta. It's hard for me to remember but I may have bought a game or two in the past because I heard its soundtrack and liked it.

I think that's why I bought Rayman 3 recently lol

Super Mario Bros. on the NES when I was like 3 or 4.

Then I played Mario 2 +3, Crystalis, Willow, Castlevania, Final Fantasy, Kid Nikki, and Zelda. Those were the first games I played as a little kid.

I still think the best video games of today come from Japan. Japanese developers just aren't as influential anymore because their games are wildly popular only in Japan.

Games like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Castlevania aren't what they used to be. (I actually still like the new Silent Hill games, but those were handled by western devs. And I do prefer Silent Hill 2 + 3 on the PS2)

Those games were very influential back in the day, so they became household names. Even my mom knows about Silent Hill because of the movies.

In later installments of these games, it seems like Japanese devs have been influenced by western devs. I don't think that's a recipe for success. (Sometimes it works. People love Dark Souls and Lost Planet is a decent game.)

I like what Japanese devs do. Something about their games feels unique. The games of this generation that brought me the most enjoyment were Japanese games. Tales of Graces, Tales of Xillia, The Last Story, Ni No Kuni, White Knight Chronicles, Catherine, Metal Gear Solid 4, and Metal Gear Rising are some examples.

I hope Japanese devs keep doing what they're doing because in my opinion their games are still amazing. I just hope they can figure out a way to appeal to western audiences as well without losing their own charm. If they don't do that the market is doomed to be dominated by Call of Duty clones.

I'm tired of all of the re-hashed game design concepts used in western games. They've become so predictable.

Fallout 3 New Vegas

  • It made me want to never buy another Bethesda game again. I would think that after Oblivion, they would've put in some effort to make their games less buggy. But no. Not only is the game boring, the AI is mediocre, the physics still feel unrealistically floaty, and character models look poorly animated.

Fable 3

  • I thought I should get it because it was released shortly after I bought a 360. What a waste of time. I can't believe I spent the time to beat that game. Boring combat, limited overworld, and a very forgettable story.

Resistance Fall of Man

  • When I first got a PS3, this game was all the rage. So I thought I should get it because everyone was saying it was amazing, so I'm sure I'd love it too, right? WRONG. I can use two words to sum of this game. Repetitive and monotonous. That and the story was practically non-existent.

The upcoming Tales of games. (Xillia 2 and Zestiria) Tales of games are always amazing, you can't go wrong.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Ground Zeroes was excellent despite being 2 hours long. The game is very well designed and the stealth made me feel on edge. I can't wait for the rest of the game.

Persona 5. It's Atlus, it's Persona which is one of their biggest franchises. They're gonna make sure this game is amazing. They've kept us waiting long enough.

Persona Q and P4A Ultimax. Same reason as above pretty much. It's Atlus, and it's Persona. Can't go wrong.
