Is there anyway you can hook up the Lappy to a desktop monitor,Just to see if the 'bar' appears on that?

CUDGEdave
We have done that and with the external monitor neither the ghost screen nor the grey bar come up on the external monitor.

Sounds like the screens busted Is there any damage to the screen itself? If not 'maybe' the gfx chips damaged.

CUDGEdave
No the screen itself seems perfectly fine . I mean like i said it runs well most of the time it's just the image on the screen. As of lately, if the lid has been closed awhile and then opens where the ghost image appears it's just a straight grey bar but that goes away after like a minute and the ghost image reappears. If replacing the laptop will be cheaper then worrying about trying to fix it then that might just be what we do. We have yet to take the actual screen apart to take a look at the wires yet. A friend of ours goes to school for it and thinks that maybe the wires have come loose due to droping it and that it will be a simple reattachign the wire for it to work properly.

Okay so this problem is kinda hard to explain but i will attempt it... A few months ago my 2 year old pushed our house laptop out a window, with a maybe foot drop or so. it landed on the back . Since then we have been able to use the screen regularly but after about 2 or so hours of being used, whether it's been closed or not, the screen doubles it's self. We get about 1/3 of the top image as a ghost screen over the bottom 1/3, covering the start bar and such. All functions are the same and nothing seems to be affected by it much, however it is extremely annoying. My question for my fellow geeks... Do I need to replace the entire laptop? Should I just replace the screen? or is it some like loose wire or something? Also what would be the cheapest route about doing it?
