@Blade_Runner_07: Now that you mention it, DOOM on the old Xbox Arcade does seem like a shoo-in. Then again, the Xbox Live Arcade was hit or miss for a while there.
@mogan: Yeah, I agree. If they had the opportunity and didn't, that's a disappointment. Being a writer myself, I'd be remiss if I passed up a chance to say something important.
Hmm. I feel like this score is at least one point lower than a lot of people are hoping for, so moderators had best prepare for that. Lol.
I am not in disagreement with your logic, your reasoning is sound, but quite frankly I think the all the hubbub with the white phosphorous is a bit overblown. While we already are completely nonplussed by and in acceptance of the most outlandish and gratuitous violence a human being can conceive of in video games and entertainment, making a fuss over a real-world weapon for a change feels a bit...I don't know what the word is. Silly? I don't want to call it "petty" because that's too mean-sounding, but "silly" is about right. We are waaaaay past the point of "too soon" or "too real" in any frame of reference.
Granted, I am installing the game as I type this, so maybe when I actually play it my perspective on it may change. And a review is always the totally justified reviewer's opinion, of course. I'm just a bit confused why our tolerance of violence, whether it's in reference to weaponry or an individual's history of suffering, seems to be so inconsistent. Is it the context that really matters, at the end of the day? We're ripping people's spines out in Mortal Kombat and it's all grins and giggles, but if something bad is presented in a serious manner, then that's different? In all sincerity I'd like to see a poll on that, see what the general public's opinion is on it.
I'm not expecting it to lean too hard into the more hardcore elements of its inspirations. At best, it'll probably cover all of it pretty lightly, there won't be anything that difficult. Still, it sounds great, can't wait to play.
