@ElvesOnEcstasy Elves is right. We have a responsibility as human beings to point out when a joke bombs. How can anyone improve their humor if we let them go along believing old, stale "make me a sandwich/get back to the kitchen/PMS" jokes are still funny? Be a sexist douchebag all you want but if you fail at humor, please don't tell jokes. Come up with some new material. You're an embarrassment to actually funny people. :p
There is such a thing as a tough girl. I consider myself tough but it's not coming from the same place. Realistically, girls running around blowing things up and yelling catch-phrases looks really typical and phony. We are not men. We are equal as human beings, but we don't operate the same way and when you throw a female in a game like Gears to try to please a small demographic, you are shitting on the license. The characters in Gears of War are extreme over the top testosterone, almost to the point of latent homosexual comedy, it's kind of the idea. That doesn't need reform. Don't throw females in a franchise because you think that's what we want. It looks desperate. We don't care. If we like the gameplay, we'll play it. Gears of War is not the place to conquer gender equality. A female lead in this setting would look forced, desperate and cheesy.
@foxrock66 Exactly. I'm all for having characters in games I can identify with, but if we push the agenda on gamers we are taking a step back every time because it only raises animosity. If we, as females, want to be perceived as a worthwhile, respected voice in the gaming community we need to stop whining and bullying our way into settings that don't fit. We need to be creating a better example of female characters ourselves, not just sitting around like vultures waiting for the boys to do it so we can pick apart their creations.

I have absolutely no desire to throw a female main into Gears of War. Regardless whether or not it would be interesting, it's just not that kind of game. The male characters are like cartoon characters with the amount of macho brutality they have, and I enjoy it. I don't think it's meant to be taken seriously, it's meant to be fun. Adding a female into 3 was kind of questionable considering the group dynamic, but it worked out I guess. A female lead however, screams trendy motivation/hidden agenda. It wouldn't be Gears. It would be shaping all dialogue and cutscenes to match only a female perspective, and personally, that's not what I come to Gears of War for.
A much better idea is a complex character creation system with a choice of male or female if we're talking about next-gen hardware anyway. I would give players a highly detailed choice of gender, race, looks, etc., and a default male or female character for those not interested in customization. It's time more games took on roles of dual gender possibilities in storyline. It worked in Elder Scrolls, Mass Effect, Dragon's Age, Saint's Row, Dragon's Dogma, etc. Still, I don't feel the need to have myself represented in Gears of War to enjoy it. A female lead in that setting is an extremely stupid idea. Don't destroy one IP trying to push an equality agenda. Either create a new female in a new franchise or make existing female game characters like Lara Croft a lot better.
Putting on a monkey suit and puking out rehearsed, invalid opinions does not make you a world leader, it makes you a sheep. If you actually researched what you're insulting it would give you ground to stand on, but as it is you're just another pawn of politics, and nobody can respect that.
