Also, we all know that games have been getting easier for a while and there are multiple articles across the spectrum about it. But is it just me or are games getting STUPIDLY easy recently?
@jesuschristmonk @peteuplink You guys beat me to the punch. This is one of my bigger complaints with the game. Even if you didn't use a silencer the ability of one to know exactly where the shot came from is highly improbable unless someone happened to catch a glimpse of the muzzle flash. A more realistic reaction would be the entire camp hastily ducking behind some cover probably not knowing where the shot came from. The camp could possibly send out a patrol to track the sniper or some frantic recon by fire. These are some improvements to AI I'd like to see in next gen consoles.
@ZuninoBR @jagcivtec Great points. I'd also mention the frustration with large aggressive animals materializing right behind you while you try and stalk pirates. Also imagine hunting the special animals with just a crappy bow during the hunting missions. You may need an RPG to take down a bear.
@4nationfury @EmphaZima @Amity6 I posted a lot about the economic side of this issue below if you feel like scrolling down to read them. Currently, the core audience of "hardcore gamers" is still overwhelmingly male and I don't think the current gaming economic model supports high budget risk taking with an already established series. I asked that last question in reference to injecting a female lead into a series known for its testosterone driven atmosphere which I think was the central issue of the article. Amity6 was one, among many, who took offense to this.
@Amity6 And that is your right as a consumer to take your money elsewhere. There are plenty of other games with female main characters such as Tomb Raider, Metroid, RE3, Bayonetta, Lollipop Chainsaw and FFXIII. There are a ton of other games where you can choose to be the female character as well: Street Fighter, Left4Dead etc. You also have games that you can customize your character to be a female. Part of GoW's appeal is its male dominated cast and atmosphere and a lot of people, some females included, like this. So as trying not to sound sexist, does every single game need to involve female protagonists?
@jeffkaos It may hurt sales at this point. GoW has already established itself with the testosterone driven men's locker room machismo brand that permeates the game. Thinking people on a large scale will invest in a GoW game with a female lead in a game known and famous for its dominant male cast because society is largely over sexism is just an assumption. More than likely Epic has taken surveys, studied past sales data and possibly hosted focus groups on this issue. Society most likely still associates war, guns and explosions etc. with males and this is a societal issue not a gaming issue.
@dannyodwyer @Kashmiro @1234ritchie Agreed. GoW was brought up being very bromance and testosterone driven. I think society and the media is creating pressure on these game companies to inject female protagonists into everything. IMO It resulted in a very clunky and watered down flavor to the game. Now don't get me wrong, I do believe female protagonists can work, but it has to be done right. I think people are excited about Remember Me and I also feel that giving the option of a male option of Lara Croft a la FemShep wouldn't work either.
