Beyond that, maybe you're not taking into account the most obvious reason people are buying this system. It's the direct successor to one of the greatest selling systems of all time. Of course people are going to buy it. And if they have to wait a couple months to play the great games... so what? That's every launch I've ever been a part of. The best games come later, we all know that, we've always known that. So we line up, and we buy systems with 'meh' launches, and we play those meh games and we play the back catalog of games (DS games in this case), and we impatiently wait for that one title that we're just dying to get our hands on, be it Zelda OoT, or one of the Resident Evil games, or the promised Mario games, or whatever. Some of us do it because that's just how we roll, we're gamers, and that's what we do. Some of us because we just have to experience that 3D effect everyone's talking about. Some of us because we're afraid the first round of systems will be sold out and there will be a Wii-like drought. And then there are those (it's crazy, I know) that saw something on the launch line up that they really wanted to play. There are plenty of reasons to get one now, plenty of reasons to wait. I won't sit here trying to convince you to buy a 3DS. I don't care whether you buy one or not. The info is out there, make your own decision like everyone else.

Your entire rant assumes that we all go solely by Gamespot reviews. We don't; so maybe that's part of your answer. Not all reviewers were as hard on the launch line up (particularly the first party titles) as GS was. While I tend to agree that Steel Diver and Pilotwings were short on content, GS's reviews were still on the low end of the spectrum. I bought Super Street Fighter IV, and while it isn't exactly a new game, it is a new experience. When else have we been able to take such a faithfully ported, console quality game on the go? Sure, the controls aren't perfect, but the touch screen interface helps with that, and so does practice with the 3DS. The online matches are quick to start and have great latency. The friend code system has been improved. I also rented Pilotwings Resort, which is a great game to rent considering it's high quality and short length. (Continued above)
