My buddy wants to know if this card will be able to work with this computer's standard power supply if he's getting the q6600 quad core processor (since I think that one comes with a different PSU)

Building it himself is not an option, he just really needs an answer about htis

thanks

On a 500 gb hard drive, is it worth it to create a 100ish gigabyte partition for back up of data if I am going to store those same files on an external hard drive? Would it be best to do both, or just leave the internal one alone and just back up to an external?

Sorry I keep making similar posts, just my old one got kind of buried now.

I should be getting my new PC tonight and I'm just trying to get decided on all this before it gets here so I can get rolling :)

I've been looking at different methods of partitioning and I'm not sure what is best to go with. I'm looking into maybe putting my OS by itself on one partition, having one for my pagefile, then all my programs and data files go on the remainder.

The other option is to install apps and OS to the same partition, have a pagefile part., then just data files on the remainder of the harddrive.

What is the best method? If programs/apps are separated from the OS partition, I would still have to uninstall/reinstall them for them to function correctly, right?

Or should I just put everything on the unpartitioned HD (save for the pagefile), then just externally back up my data files?

What is easiest/smartest thing to do?

Cool thats good to hear, fighter :)

so, "Games for Windows".. Ill be able to use my xbox live account to play online, correct?

but non games for windows, to play online, I will need to make an account with the respective company hosting the servers for that game?

I guess thats one thing I liked about Xbox live.. you use your same username for all the games haha. but dude keyboard and mouse alone should make up for that 10x over.

I'm thinking about selling my xbox 360 copies of Bioshock, Mass Effect, Orange Box, Gears of War and buying them again on PC. Well atleast maybe Orange Box and Bioshock, as they're only 20-30 bucks now.

Oh also, if I'm playing games for windows with my xbox live account, will achievments I get on PC transfer over when I sign onto my xbox?

thanks :)

So since Call of Duty 4 is available on Steam, would I have to be registered for that as well?

Are there any PC games where my Xbox Live screename carries over?

I'd like to keep them consolidated if possible.

Ah that's awesome!

So about Steam... is it better to purchase games from steam or from the store? Is having a steam account a requirement to play online? CAn people who bought the game in the store play with people who bought it off steam? Sorry, I'm kind of new to the PC gaming scene, I just play MMOs, but now I"m getting a decent computer so I'd like to start gaming more on here :)

Thanks for the answers :)

For people who have both versions, which community is bigger?

PC or xbox 360?

I have it for 360 right now but I'm getting a new PC in a few days so Id like to start playing on PC, but I don't want to pick it up if it's dead. Though I doubt it would be, just checking :P

Also, how is Call of Duty 4/Unreal Tourn 3 community on PC? I have neither for 360 so I would definitely prefer to buy them on PC.

And just while they're all on the table... out of those three, which would you recommend I get first? What about Battlefield 2142?

Ok I understand more now. :)

So programs that actually run, like Itunes, Windows Media Player, Video games, etc I keep on the partition with the Operating system, but I just keep the data that these programs run on a separate partition (music, videos, game saves, etc.)

am I getting it? :P

EDIT: So, would an external hard drive be a viable alternative to partitioning? For one, if you kept the external one up to date it would be separate from your normal one if it was infected and it would also have an advantage over a partition, if the whole hard drive failed, that partition would fail as well.

Or would you maybe do both? Partition and an external?

Thanks for the responses.

Sorry I'm just still kind of confused =/

An example might help me..

Like, ok, say I have a 20g partition made for my operating system, and the other 480 for everything else.

Would stuff like say, itunes, video games, music/videos, documents all go on the 480g?

Also you said if I had to reinstall my OS, i would have to reinstall my games and stuff as well? Why do the apps need to be reinstalled but the data (music/videos, documents) don't?
