I am not the only one who got it replaced the same day, I don't know what ghetto-run Best Buys you people live near. It must not be the same policy for every store.

Oh and heres a link about trading in the old 360 for the elite from xbox.com:

Well I bought Crackdown and got in that way, kinda dissapointed with it, it has no replay value at all either, and ultimately I will end up wasting hours of my life with some guide trying to find all of those damn orbs for the achievements.

But at least I got the beta!

I used to work at Best Buy and from what I know is they dont repair consoles, they send them to the manufacturer for them to decide if/whats wrong with it. If the manufacturer says its no longer working then Best Buy will replace your console with a new one or you can get your money back or ask for store credit which is the same as what you orignally paid. I dont think you could easily go in and ask to replace your current system for the new one (assuming the Elite is confirmed which by the way hasnt been confirmed so stop with these threads) even if you do have the service plan and pay the difference.

Best Buy would lose money on that deal since the old system would have to be sold by them again plus $80 is what you would actually pay for the new system and we all know Best Buy doesnt like to give stuff away without them gaining something significant.

Yeah, and from what I have seen with other people who have brought in dead systems or called the number is that they have to wait a few weeks and they get their system repaired by Microsoft.....I have never seen them give store credit.....it's like a last resort for Best Buy....they hate giving customers what they want....That's actually part of the reason I left....

Um both of you are wrong....I just brought in my broke 360 today to Best Buy and showed my replacement plan warranty. I told them it kept saying "unplayable disc", they told me to go get another from video games section. They did not check to see if it was working or not, and the manager put in my old hard drive into the new console when I asked to keep it. The girl at the counter did not even go through the two bags I brought in with all the cables and controller, and headset. i probably could have kept the controller and headset, perhaps even left my hard drive at home, and just given them the hdd-less 360 and cables and walked away with a brand new 30 with everything. Being able to pull off a stunt to trade the old 360 for the new 'elite' doesnn't seem too improbable from what I seen today.

Did you bother to read what we posted?  We both said they would replace your broken system if you have the service plan.  What you got was a replacement, you are actually lucky they replaced it on the spot because you usually have to wait about 2 weeks plus they usually check.

Prove to me on that you can do this... tell me where it says you can replace your old system for a new one even if its working on your service plan brochure.  I know for a fact you will not get a new system by trying to do a trade-in and pay the difference, Best Buy is in the money making business its not a charity.

Um, you said they have to send it in to Microsoft and then you have to wait 2 weeks to get another one. I replaced mine the same day, and I know other people who did the same thing.

Did you bother reading what I said? Basically what I said is the people who work their are nimrods who hate their crappy jobs, are not properly trained, and can easily be fooled by a wise customer. For instance, the girl who handled my exchange. She hit a wrong button on the computer, then bragged about leaving early from work, and then didn't know where to find the serial # (I helped her there) and did not at all check to see if what I had in the bags was everything that comes in the box. And like I said before, but you didn't bother reading before: THEY DID NOT CHECK TO SEE IF IT WAS WORKING OR NOT. The system could have been perfectly fine, they would never know. So don't talk about some crap in some service plan "brochure" about not being able to trade in a working product, cause it can be done, as proven today.

Now what your saying about the trading it in for a differnent SKU, that can be done as well. They give you a gift card, evenif you have to pay the difference, if you want one. But I bet you can fool the morons there into trading in a different product.

Just returned my launch 360 back to BEst Buy, glad I bought the 2 year warranty at the time. Thing that sucks though is that the new one was manufactured in 6/06, so its not the new BenQ drive, although it is a lot quieter than the jet engine sounding old one. I really should have quickly browsed through the boxes there though and looked for a newer one.
