If you're talking about stuff similar to God Hand, there's not much else that you can compare it to that's actually a good game. If you're interested in regular fighters though, then definitely Tekken 5 and Soul Calibur II & III.
Liscense Board can be a pain at times, and the Spehere Grid IS a whole lot better, but I like the combat system. It's very, very reminiscent of FFXI Online, a game I put 50+ days of playtime into.
Yeah I actually just explained the same situation to my friend who bough Skate yesterday. He says it's great and from what I've seen, the new Tony Hawk's just going to be another combination of past titles with better graphics and a couple of new gameplay mechanics.
