That is weird. Clearing you're cache probably somehow cleared the data in your save. Try removing the hard drive and then put it back in and try again. I doubt that will make any difference, but it is worth a try.
I hope. I always thought the Skate games were miles better than Tony Hawk games. Looking at Gamespot's reviews, they tended to underrate the Skate games in my opinion.
