Higher resolutions do make a significant difference, I too lack pictures, however am surrounded by several monitors. My laptop has a 17" screen at 1920*1200, and compared to my G4 the picture is significantly better, and then when we compare to a JAI crt monitor I have at 1600*1200 the picture is much crisper, but the colour are worse (imho it's very difficult to beat a good CRT monitor for colours, downside is the monitors decay over time).

Its sad, if Dwarf Fortress had a non clunky interface it would be such an amazing game. It still is an amazing game, but its just too clunky for me to get into.

Agreed. I like it a lot. I think it's a great idea for a game and a game I could really devote a lot of time into. I don't mind the graphics at all or anything about it except for the lack of mouse support. If I could drag a dwarf over an object and that changed his current job and what not I think it would be perfect.

I've spent a considerable amount of time trying to find what you're looking for, Dawn of Discovery isn't bad but it doesn't have it all. Sim City 2000 was always quite a lot of fun, but god games are part of a seriously underdeveloped genre. If you want the best get a clean nonclunky tileset for Dwarf fortress, that does away with most of the ascii. That way the game make clear sense and you don't loose the awesome capabilities. Furthermore if you tend to roleplay in a managerial manner nothing surpasses dwarf fortress due to its open ended gameplay, leaving much up to the player compared to limiting possibilities.

If you do like the atmosphere of Dwarf fortress I would recommend you look at minecraft - it is not a strategy game, however it has much the same feeling of exploration and open ended creation.

NO IT IS NOT! I have to say Crysis is a good FPS (on the other hand warhead was not amazing), and the freedom is brilliant, but it never lives up, I feel it's the map design personally, it prevents you from fully enjoying the game.

The Witcher is the best modern RPG I can think of.

Awesome game in my opinion, I play it for the PC, it takes a lil while to get good at it, but once you have the basics down it's not too difficult - great game, perfectly balanced, best multiplayer fps out there in my humble opinion.

Get 2 HDD and install both, XP is good for the older games, Vista owns the new ones due to DX10.

Just forget it, the crysis multiplayer is broken most of the time, and when you get it to work, you officially realise that you just wasted 3 hours trying to play it, it's a big like CS, except bad, boring and biased.

KOTOR - no competition, it was bioware's best RPG and it's the best star wars game by a mile.

Hellgate has an optional monthly fee, if you want an MMO bite the bullet and get WoW, if you don't get The Witcher or Mass Effect, both are good RPGs, or infact morrowind if somehow you have managed to miss the best rpg ever made..
