If you treat it gently, You don't need it. I treat might well since it is a system AND the controller. I'm freaky obsessed with keeping my controllers clean and in good shape.
Be good to the system and you don't need the screen protector. Touching the screens with your fingers is really stupid. It damages it over time.
Not all people go bald. The lucky ones only thin out. I luckily just thinned out. That and I could go shave my head then take a picture. Either way, I would be called a liar.
