@Ravenlore_basic The Steam OS is a novel idea but it has a huge uphill battle. First, its Linux... no one develops for Linux for a multitude of reasons, mainly because no one uses it. Second, who is going to want a console that can't play anything but a few indie games? Oh but it can stream Windows games!! No thanks, Ill just play it on my PC.
@scatterbrain007 Its "possible" to make one... however think of it this way. By the time they go through the R&D process, manufacturing, testing, revisions, marketing, and release.. the console will already be a couple generations behind.
The appeal about consoles is people want them cheap... look at the PS4 and XB1. In reality they are cheap machines. They could of bumped up the hardware in them but people dont want to spend 700 -1000 on a console. So no, consoles will never be able to match current gen PC's.
The only way that they could compete is make a console that could be upgraded, i.e. a modular system. That way gamers could leverage their purchasing power vs gaming quality.
Streaming to phones and tablets? HA!!!! Maybe in 10-15 years. To play a streamed game in the quality that people would demand would require bandwidth, bandwidth that cell phones certainly don't have. In order to play a game in HD, with all of the data going across... you are going to need a minimum of a 20 -25 meg connection downstream with at least another 5-10 meg up. Certainly, its a connection that is available to a lot of people however, in reality, you have other devices on the network and other factors that contribute to latency.
Its a novel idea... we are just a ways from making it happen. Anyone that has hopes of streaming their favorite ps3 games.... hope you are ready to shell out some cash for that fiber connection... IF its available to you
I am not a big fan of EA specifically when it goes to their Origin platform. They could have easily partnered with Steam and had a mutual beneficial relationship. Their past performance on game releases has a lot to be desired, i.e. Issues with BF3 launch, Sim City 3 Launch, even the BC2 launch... Also, I dislike what they turned Crysis into although I will admit that its not entirely EA's fault. Crytek from the beginning has lacked quality AI and certain gameplay elements especially when it comes to MP.
With that said, new CEO and all and the progress that has been made with BF4 it seems as they are taking customer feedback more seriously, or maybe DICE is pushing back some. I am not going to fault EA from wanting to create the best game.... why should you? Just because someone wants to be number 1 isnt a bad thing at all... it pushes the boundary for innovation. Wanting to be the best is nothing new, nor should it be considered greedy. I play hockey; I want to be the best person in my league... doesn't mean I am greedy, or an a-hole... I am just competitive and businesses should be run the same way.
@Vodoo 800k really isn't that much money... that is a modest amount. Considering the work they put in with the sacrifice that many legit CEO's make in family life and personal life and the stress that comes along with it they should make a lot of money. There is a level or ridiculousness that comes in with certain companies, but overall 800k is a good salary for someone that put int hat much work to get there regardless of what you think of the company.
Now... the correct way to market it in Japan is sell the XB1 next to used "panties"vending machines and bagel head implants. The would sell like hot cakes. Yes... I said hot cakes.
