We have actually stopped banning for thread necromancy. We discovered it's more of a deterrent to force anyone who does it to sit all alone in a locked room with the a rabid chipmunk and an accordion player for a minimum of three days. But we do close the threads. :)reported for thread necromancy

Exactly. Set AHCI in BIOS before you install Windows, and then you don't have to worry about it.so you supposeto turn Achi on when you installing windows 7, because when i tried i tried it was after i installed windows 7

i believe you can just go to the bios and turn Achi on, but doesn't really make a difference, i have a SSD and i didn't even turn on Achi

Many have reported better performance with ACHI and trim support.
What he said. Lots of SSD features are not available in IDE, only in AHCI. Also, if Windows 7 was installed in IDE mode it won't boot in any other unless you apply the fix that we talked about earlier. So switching BIOS from one to the other without first making the necessary registry changes will lead to a BSOD due to not finding a boot device. Fun times...I recently installed a Crucial 128 GB m4 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive SATA 6Gb/s CT128M4SSD2. It does not appear in "My Computer". I am using Window 7 Home 64 bit with a EVGA P55 FTW motherboard. I see the drive in the BIOS, Windows message popped up and said the drive installed successfully, and the drive is also visible on the Device Manager under Disk Drives. Does anyone know how to get it too appear. merigoldsassRight-click "My Computer" and pick "manage". Go to Disk Management in the big window that comes up, locate your SSD, and initialize it. The m4 comes uninitialized and you need to do this step first.
