I know R/B/Y off by heart and the music is classic Pokemon but I'm not going to say it's the best, as nostalgic as I am.
Also, I don't understand the dislike for the 3rd Gen because I genuinely enjoyed Emerald, secret bases and all. Whereas Gen 3 was so aesthetically superior to Gen 2, the difference between3 and 4here wasn't so great...so I guess I was less surprised by how Gen 4 turned out even though it's fun.

I played Silver when the 2nd Generation came out and it remains my favourite. The night/day difference in lighting, the red Gyarados, the music in Ecruteak and the National Park and when you first step into Kanto, 2 regions in 1, berries, daily events...the fact that this was the first new region and set of new Pokemon we were introduced to. OK, so nostalgia has something to do with it but none of the other generations have made me feel the same way. I've recently replayed my old Blue and felt a bit disappointed...but not when I replayed Silver for some reason.

Did you accidentally give/attach it to another Pokemon?

Starmie.. I absolutely LOVE it.nintendo-4life

Same here, I've ALWAYS had a Starmie on my team since the R/B/Y days and to this day.
Reasons include:

I'm a Misty fan.
Gotta love that it can learn Thundershock. Add Psychic and Surf and you got a great special attacker.
I also love the idea of Starmies and their crystal core shining in the sea at night...

'Snivy' reminds me of 'Squirtle' in that it's a bit unimaginative/obvious...but cute enough. It does make me think of a stuck up and arrogant pokemon so that part's fine. ;)

Tepig is my least favourite.

Oshawott is the one I like most. It's cute, and simply fun to say. :D (I thought it was a Japanese name at first glance.)

Well, I'd ideally have a crimson/black DS, but will get an ice blue one instead due to the first not being available in Australia.

Well, I'd be surprised if it doesn't do any harm. I mean, normal screens are bad enough for the eyes. The eyes will have to do more work with the whole 3D thing. The little 'demo' on youtube was awesome but I can imagine how tiring it'd be to actually play a game like that for even justan hour.

Been playing Pokemon Emerald Lately. Nice blast of nostalgia.

Kurezan
I just restarted my Emerald recently too. It was the last Pokemon version I bought (and I know nothing about Sinnoh pokemon) so B/W is going to be full of newness for me. Reconnected with my Silver as well. (I love G/S music best). The trailers for B/W look awesome. It's amazing how much things have changed, especially when I compare this newest version to my first Pokemon game - Blue. Huge pixels, black and white, non-light-up screen...anyone else remember those great old days?

Probably won't be able to afford it. The DS-XL is already $299...with its size the only difference - no new unseen technology or anything. The 3D graphics on the 3DS look awesome but when it comes out, I might just get the DS Lite, which will be heaps cheaper then. (Yeah, I'm still playing with my GBA SP). Who knows, the hype may really hit me when the time's near.
