The PS4 was announced!?

ActionRemix

Forgot about the PS2... you can understand though, I mean you clearly forgot the PS3 :P.

PS3 probably made Gamespot more money than the Wii. Half the console sales, but 3x the cost. Games were more expensive, and there was a higher attach rate.

This is probably accurate because more dudebro's go to Gamestop then anywhere else.

[QUOTE="princeofshapeir"][QUOTE="darkdude2k12"]Kirby also. I find Kirby to be very feminine and is a marketing strategy to embrace the "alternative lifestyle".darkdude2k12
Yes, a pink puffball eating up its enemies is definitely a metaphor for homosexuality.

Prove me wrong. What's not homosexual about a Pink puffy thing that can easily suck a marble through a straw? Not my fault Shiggy and the gang undress Reggie with their eyes.

"Alternative lifestyle" Alternative to what? I used to think you were just seeking attention through Nintendo bashing but now I know with 100% certainty that your just a dumbass. Gender and sexuality bashing...? Really?

1080p and 60fps is wasted on console games.

I would prefer larger draw distances, larger environments, and more objects on screen than using the power to get to 1080p at 60fps. That's a waste for fixed hardware.

With the PC, you can just throw more hardware at it. If you can't get 1080p and 60fps, you can just wait 6 months for new hardware that can probably do it. It's a whole different platform with a different mentality.

Well stated..you are 100% right. It is much easier and cheaper to make a 720p game look beautiful then a 1080p game. To truly make a 1080 p game look amazing you need the proper tech..which next gen systems won't have and a boatload of cash and great developers. A truly inspired 720p game blows away any 1080p console game released today.

Things i don't want is:

  • Digital-download games only
  • Small Hard-drives
  • Have to pay for online
  • Waggie Controls
  • Under 1080p/60fps
  • Lack of Blu-ray drive

aroxx_ab

Most games next gen will be 720P due to subtle differences and outlandish costs of 1080p production.

Personally, I find Super Mario World to be better than any of the NSMB games so far. Technically, they are "new" in terms of the release date and level design, but gameplay generally follows the same set of rules as any Mario game does. I dunno, the NSMB series hasn't left me too impressed so far. Donkey Kong Country Returns did a much better job of taking a series back to its 2D roots.

I'm still wondering why Nintendo hasn't gone back to the Super Mario World Map Style.

They actually are using a SMW inspired map this time around. A lot of the lead designers on this game were huge SMW fans and are drawing inspiration from it.

Hardcore games is what will drive the market with the likes of Tablets and Phones taking over and all the games on them and just about every kid has these now they will only want a hardcore system to coincide with it like a 720/PS4. I think Nintendo and the days of the kiddie ways and weak power GPU is going to bite them hard with the Wii-U

me3x12

Do you worship Michael Pachter or something? Btw..there is nothing weak about the Wii U GPU, it is the CPU that is questionable.

from my long experience with platformers, I found The DS game to be a weak offering, but the Wii New Super Mario Bros. to be among the very best of the Mario franchise. I don't look at these games for how much the mechanics change or the visuals, but rather how well designed the levels are. New Super Mario Bros. Wii was absolutely brilliant in that regard

48knightsxiii

You've obvious have not played the game as designed. Playing with 4 players kills what you said instantly and the levels were designed with that in mind.

The game was not designed around being played by 4 players. It was built to be played by 1 but to allow 3 others to join. Get your facts straight.

To be fair, there isn't much innovation you can do to a Mario 2D platformer anymore. They've covered practically every route: More powerups, shortcuts, split paths, overworlds, secondary characters, multiplayer, world hazards, mini-games, toad houses, Yoshi, etc. The list goes on.

Focusing on the coins and adding a few new game modes is more than I could have come up with to be different from 30+ years of 2D platformers.

nintendoboy16

Exactly...and if you change it too much, people will freak out. You have to please your fanbase.

And even that last part is hard these days...

I know. It's as if people want 2D Mario to be a completely different game altogether. Explosions? Strange backgrounds?..Iono but i like it how it is. I want to run jump pound koopas and goomba's and save the princess for the billionth time...If Nintendo wants to innovate..keep doing it with the 3d Mario's.
